  • Overload
Dr Jonas, your host for the Dr Synonymous Show, does a quick show tonite just because.  Lots is happening.  Much could be said-- or not.  Non- Directive Imagery could be a helpful shortcut out of overload. JAMA era 3 article by Don Berwick, MD reviewed, generating comments about G Gayle Stephens, MD a Founder of FM.  Dr. Stephens had a great talk about the covenant and the calling of physicians versus the contract and the job of modern era.  I added the community and the citizen becoming a steward of scarce valuable resources with the patient.  Both stewards, both human create the next era in health care. Medical Marijuana are mutually exclusive words.  I expand on the idea. Non-Directive Imagery was my modality this week to get clarity from overload.  I reflect on the Holistic Consultation clinics we just added at our Free clinic (Open Arms Health Clinic) in Bellbrook, thanks to the Institute of Holistic Leadership with Patti McCormick, RN, PhD at the helm. Tune in for a blip on the Dr Synonymous radar.

  • Easter, National Doctor's Day, Opiates, OSMA
Your host, A. Patrick Jonas, MD notes that: change and newness abound as spring is upon us and winter is gone.  Easter brings magic and reverence, while the CDC chides physicians for opiate prescribing, but local hospitals celebrate National Doctors Day.  Organized medicine in the form of the Ohio State Medical Association meets this week and we get to catch up.  We'll look at some Tweets and blogs to check the pulse of medicine, too.  Let's chat. Direct Primary Care always comes up as my practice has more access starting in April via a new DPC relationship.

  • Eat Bacteria, Bacteria Food and Fats to Stay Healthy, Medical Geezer Reflections
Your host, Dr Jonas, will reflect on a fermentation session he attended today.  Kefir, kombucha, scoby and scoby hotel were some of the interesting subjects.  The food world is changing and physicians need to keep up.  Physician burnout is a growing force in workforce development for healthcare.  The "Match" for med students adds little hope for an adequate primary care workforce for America. Blog, Tweet and literature review is always a part of the show.  The OSMA Annual Meeting is coming up.  What's big? Dr. Jonas manifests his Medical Geezer status to pontificate a bit, too.

  • Direct Primary Care Cures the Presidential Election Blues
Dr Jonas, your host for the Dr Synonymous Show will celebrate Direct Primary Care (Direct Family Medicine is his version) as a way to lessen the Presidential Election Year Blues.  A Forbes online article by Dave Chase provides some insight.    America is heating up for the election while healthcare continues to bankrupt the country shamelessly and with no end in sight.  Not to fear, DPC to the rescue, especially for self insured employers and people who are fed up.  It's so good it's hard to understand. Dr J will go on about "Geezer" Family Doctors like him hanging on for a few extra years of practice by converting to DPC.   The American Family Physician February edition may pop up for discussion.  Join the chat room to contribute your ideas/ opinions.

  • Summary of DPC Ohio UnSummit IV: The Culture Grows and Glows
The DPC Ohio culture moved ahead on February 20th as 24 fans of DPC gathered at the Dublin Integrated Education Center.  Medical students, residents, a FNP student, Family Physicians, General Internists, a Rheumatologist, a practice manager and six faculty shared information and ideas in a stimulating one day UnSummit. From Cincinnati to Columbus to Cleveland to Beavercreek, Bellfontaine, and Waverly, Physicians in Direct Primary Care disclosed their strategies for success and the challenges behind and ahead.   Dr Jonas, your host for the Dr. Synonymous Show, was one of he presenters.  He reviews some of the highlights of the meeting and ponders what may lie ahead.  At least two future interviews for the Dr S Show were assured from the people and ideas at this enthusiastic session in an incredible facility: The Dublin Integrated Education Center on the OU Dublin, Ohio Campus. The Center for Innovation in Family and Community Health thanks the FMEC for their help planning and announcing the meeting and to LibertyDirect for help with sponsorship.  Special thanks to onsite and ongoing CIFCH member, Patrick Jonas (my oldest son), for his efforts and to FMEC staffer Shayla Rammel for her help with the preparatory work online and through social media.

  • Cultural Development of DPC: Pure, Mixed and Hybrid
Direct Primary Care is growing and groaning.  What drives it?  What goes into the development of the DPC culture? Is there a culture of DPC?  "A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next." one internet definition. Models of DPC include "Pure", Mixed and Hybrid.  I'll define Mixed during the show.   Who is doing it and how does it come together? The DPC Summits help to anchor the movement.  July 8-10 in Kansas City is the next national one. Our Ohio UnSummit seeks to help with the development of the Ohio DPC culture.  I'll discuss the UnSummit (Feb 20th in Dublin, OH) and shamelessly promote it during the show.
