  • Dr. Dayna Laur (@daylynn) - How I Became A Successful Educational Consultant

    Dr. Dayna Laur is a veteran high school social studies teacher and career academy coordinator. For fourteen years, she taught Advanced Placement U.S. government, U.S. history, global studies, and law and engaged in extensive co-teaching experiences in a special education setting. Dayna holds a B.A. in History from Virginia Tech, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in 21st Century Teaching and Learning from Wilkes University, and an Ed.D. in instructional systems design and technology from Sam Houston State University. She is a two-time National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certified teacher. 

    During her teaching tenure, Dayna worked closely with the Classrooms for the Future initiative in Pennsylvania, presenting to teachers, instructional technology coaches, administrators, and higher education faculty members on ways in integrate project-based learning in a technology-rich classroom environment. She frequently keynoted events and served as a model teacher to the 500 school districts in the Commonwealth. She was a featured model teacher for Authentic Based Classroom Instruction as produced by the National Institute for Professional Practice. Edutopia also featured Dayna as a model teacher for Interdisciplinary PBL in their Schools That Work Series. During her high school teaching career, Dayna won numerous awards from national organizations and Pennsylvania.

    Upon leaving the brick-and-mortar classroom, Dayna consulted for several leading national organizations including the Buck Institute for Education and Partnership for 21st- Century Skills. In 2014, Dayna, and Dr. Tim Kubik, founded Project ARC to facilitate partnerships between teachers and technical experts in developing a learning ecosystem that engages learners in authentic project learning experiences (APLEs).     Erica began her career in education over 15 years ago by substitute teaching as she worked through college. After she obtained her B.S., Erica took a job in Public Relations as the Customer Service Manager managing the customer experience. Due to a downturn in the economy, Erica found herself searching for a job due to downsizing, which led Erica back to the classroom as a substitute teacher as a temporary means to support her family. Through that second experience in the classroom, Erica found her love and passion for education and has not looked back.

    Throughout her tenure in education, Erica has been a classroom teacher, instructional specialist, teacher mentor, and Director of Literacy. Through those experiences, Erica realized that she not only had a love for teaching children, but she also had a passion for helping other educators realize their full potential. Erica left the traditional classroom setting in 2017 to begin consulting full-time. Throughout this time, Erica has had the opportunity to work with educators across the country. Erica has provided professional development in Rigorous and Relevant Instruction, Trauma-Informed Practices, Addressing the S.E.L. Needs of Students, Equitable Instructional Practices, and How to Use Data to Inform Practice. Erica has also given Keynote presentations on Acting for Impact, Addressing the S.E.L. Needs of Students, and Equity in Education for schools and organizations around the country.  

    Erica holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Tennessee State University, a M.A.T. from Trevecca Nazarene University, and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Lipscomb University.

    Erica has written and published an adolescent self-discovery book titled, Who Are You? A Guide to Help Adolescents Navigate Through the Social and Emotional Issues of Life.  Middle and high schools throughout the country are using Who Are You to cultivate authentic relationships within their schools.

  • Dr. Erica Jordan-Thomas (@e_jordanthomas) - How To Become An Educational Consultant: Turning Purpose To Profit

    Erica Jordan-Thomas’ commitment to equity is grounded in her educational experiences that prove all students can be successful when given the resources aligned to their unique needs. As a product of public schools, it was the equity leadership of her teachers that inspired her to follow in their footsteps. Erica’s career in education began as a Teach For America corps member teaching high school math in Charlotte, North Carolina. Inspired to create change at a broader scale, she worked as an instructional coach for Teach For America.

    Believing in the power of strong building leadership, Erica went on to join the 11th cohort of New Leaders, a principal preparation program focused on developing school leaders for turnaround settings. After completing a principal residency, she served as an assistant principal and middle school principal in Charlotte, North Carolina. Under her leadership as principal, she implemented equitable practices such as restorative practices, school-wide implementation of the International Baccalaureate program, and an extended day high school credit program that increased high school credit options. Consequently, her school grew to be ranked #2 out of 43 middle schools in the district for their growth in English language arts and #3 in the district for their growth in science. 

    In May 2021, Erica graduated with her doctorate in education leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Erica focused her doctoral studies on education entrepreneurship, racial equity leadership, and system-level strategy that empowers school principals to effectively lead schools our students deserve. She is the Founder & Owner of two businesses, EJT Consulting LLC, a consulting business focused on providing school leaders with quality learning experiences, and Get LaunchED Consulting™️, a business development program helping educators launch their own consulting business for impact. 

    Erica is a native of Columbus, Ohio and proud alumna of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in Textiles and Clothing. She holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Relay Graduate School of Education. Erica received the New Leader Award from the College of Education and Human Ecology at her alma mater, The Ohio State University.     Jaye Espy specializes in Diversity Partnerships in education — specifically helping students connect, access, and prepare for industry. As Founder and Principal of 353, LLC, her work with diverse corporate, education, and non-profit clients has focused on issues that impact the education ecosystem.

    As an experienced strategic thought partner who has worked as an implementation specialist across the education spectrum, Jaye has managed complex projects to improve P16 education systems across the United States. She started Mississippi’s first virtual public school in 2002 through a U.S. Department of Education grant and was also a part of the founding team to launch washingtonpost.com in 1995. 

    Jaye’s current work covers a wide range of education areas across equity and access, workforce development, and partnership opportunities for schools, teachers, and students at Stride Learning, an online learning service. 

    Jaye’s portfolio also includes consulting with Codehouse, a non-profit that aims to tackle the diversity gap in technology and Black Tech Ventures, a company that empowers the next generation of black student innovators to become tech entrepreneurs. 

    Jaye formerly served as chief of staff for the White House Initiatives on HBCUs for the Obama Administration where she led collaborative partnership teams across federal, corporate, and post-secondary institutions to improve opportunities for students and faculty, especially in computer science. She was also a special assistant in the Office of the Deputy Secretary. She also worked with UNCF, College Board, Association Montessori International, Mississippi Department of Education, Accenture, and Deloitte. 

    Jaye has degrees from Howard University and the University of Mississippi and is extremely active in politics in her home state of Mississippi and as a Maryland resident.

    Michelle M. Jacob is a member of the Yakama Nation and is Professor of Indigenous Studies and Co-Director of the Sapsik’ʷałá Program in the Department of Education Studies at the University of Oregon (UO). She also serves as Affiliated Faculty in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies and in the Environmental Studies Program. Michelle engages in scholarly and activist work that seeks to understand and work toward a holistic sense of health and well-being within Indigenous communities and among allies who wish to engage in decolonization. Michelle has published six books and has numerous articles published in social science, education, and health science research journals, and grants from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Science Foundation. Her research areas of interest include: Indigenous methodologies, spirituality, health, education, Native feminisms, and decolonization. Dr. Jacob founded Anahuy Mentoring, LLC to support her vision of sharing Indigenous methodologies with a broad audience of professionals through her books, professional development, coaching, and consultation; in her work, Michelle uses Indigenous methods to help clients achieve success in work and life.
