Michelle Boyd Waters is an English teacher, writer, and founder of the educational publishing company reThink ELA. She is the curriculum designer of Social Justice Writing Project, Explode the Moment Personal Narrative Writing Project, A Time for Change Writing Project, and Grammar Conversations.
Michelle is a former award-winning newspaper reporter whose work has appeared on the Associated Press wire and in The Dallas Morning News. She gave up her career to stay home with her two children. During that time, she started a home-based web design and hosting company, which she sold to become a teacher when her kids went to school.
During more than 10 years experience in the classroom, she has chronicled her journey from a curriculum-centered to teacher to a teacher who helps students learn who they are as readers and writers and edupreneur who provides resources to help other teachers guide their own students through that process.
She is a middle and high school English teacher, co-editor of the Oklahoma English Journal, a National Board Certified Teacher candidate, and a University of Oklahoma student in the Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum master’s program. Her ultimate goals include teaching pre-service teachers how to nurture young readers and writers and writing a novel.
