Visual inspection can tell you what a dryer vent looks like. Measurement tells you how the system is actually performing.
In this episode of The Dryer Vent Safety Council Podcast, we explore the DVSC vacuum testing method – an objective approach to evaluating dryer vent performance through measurement rather than observation alone.
The method grew out of an extensive field study designed to determine how real-world dryer systems behave under different venting conditions. That work ultimately led to a practical Traffic-Light Classification that places test results into Green, Yellow, or Red performance bands – giving technicians a consistent framework for interpreting what they measure.
The episode explains why objective testing matters, how measurement can reveal performance problems that may not be apparent during a visual inspection, and why documenting performance before and after service can provide valuable information to both technicians and consumers.
The specific testing procedures, measurement criteria, and classification thresholds are intentionally reserved for DVSC technical publications and member resources.
Consistency Reduces Risk.
