This Padma Shree awardee is a commendable nuclear scientist, the founding Vice-Chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute, and a member of the atomic energy commission. He served as the Principal Advisor to the strategic planning group in the Department of Atomic Energy and led the Indian side during the negotiations for the Nuclear Deal accompanied by Mr. Anil Kakodkar.

He worked at Qualcomm right out of college; but then left his job to pursue the civil services exam - an exam all too infamous for taking years of preparation and grit.
