The DTV Digest

A quick warning-slash-apology upfront, the audio for this episode isn't great. We had the opportunity to record in the same room for once, and I...forgot the microphone. So instead three guys were using a tiny headset mic.

Anyway - this episode sees us discussing two movies about a single guy in space - the recent SOLIS, and in our DTV Throwback section, the Mark Strong starring APPROACHING THE UNKNOWN. Find out how Mike and Rich thought about those. Also joining us this week is long time collaborator WILL BENTLEY, who chimes in on the DTV Chart, Coming Soon and Washing Up sections.

Again, sorry about the audio!

APPROACHING THE UNKNOWN

We've hit the mid-point of the year, so Rich and Mike decided to take stock of the world of  DTV over the past six months. Joined by former co-presenter and manager of one of the very few remaining DVD rental stores in the UK, DAVE WAIN, the trio do their level best to take a sober viewpoint on both the present and future.

There are no reviews of films in this episode, nor any of our usual features, but nevertheless we hope that you will find our discussion interesting and, dare I say it, worthy of wasting your time. Enjoy!

It's about time we got around to discussing at length some of Scott Adkins' work and what better time to do so than with the DVD/Blu Ray release of his most recent collaboration with director Jesse V Johnson, AVENGEMENT? Well heck, why not throw in the star-studded TRIPLE THREAT as well? Not only that but we take a look at two of his films not directed by Jesse, INCOMING and our DTV THROWBACK is EL GRINGO (currently available on Amazon Prime). Not only that but we have our regular sections, the COMING SOON trailers and WASHING UP...

Evil Doll movies are all the rage at the moment, what with the remake of Childs Play hitting the cinemas and Annabelle 3 due out later this year. So we decided to take a look at two recent DTV efforts - MANDY THE DOLL and CLOWN DOLL. We also take a look at a doll-themed short called DOLL IT UP, and we have our usual COMING SOON and DTV CHART - as well as a different take on the WASHING UP. Check it out and spread the word!

As mentioned on our last show, we decided to take a look at THE HAUNTING OF BORLEY RECTORY, a low budget horror movie which has proved very popular, hanging around the DVD Top 100 for the past 14 weeks! Is it any good? Tune in to find out!!

On top of that, we take a look at a couple of films revolving around Kickass Mums. First up is MARIA from the Philippines, followed by the Vietnamese epic, FURIE. Both of these films are available on NETFLIX and deserve a watch, in our opinion!

For our SHORT SHOT this week we take a look at a little-known director....Ridley...something...who has put together a short film sponsored by Turkish Air (see link below), and our DTV Throwback is THE AGGRESSION SCALE, a film which needs to be seen to be believed.

We also have our usual COMING SOON section and round up with our WASHING UP. So what are you waiting for? Dive in!

This week Mike and Rich examine two films starring Keannu Reeves 0 SIBERIA and REPLICAS - warning, one of these is pretty batshit insane. Talking of which, Mike also takes a gander at the long-in-the-making IRON SKY 2 - THE COMING RACE, a film which conspiracy theorists will surely take to their hearts. On top of all this we also find time to catch up on our Throwback movie, SNOWPIERCER and in our Short Shot we rave about Jean-Paul Ly's THE DIVISION (see link below). Not only that but you'll also find our regular features,THE DTV CHART, COMING SOON trailers and THE WASHING UP!

Hi everyone, we're finally back! Rich and I are finally getting ready to record episode 082 this evening, and I have FINALLY gotten round to editing our previous episode, this one, recorded way back in February!

So what can you find on this thought-to-be-lost treasure trove? Why the latest Jackie Chan film, BLEEDING STEEL, the Finnish dark superhero movie RENDEL and the mind-boggliing DAVE MADE A MAZE! Not only all that but also a review of the great short film PAST & FUTURE KINGS (see link below), and our Throwback is S. DARKO, the unlikely sequel to Donnie Darko. Speaking of unlikely sequels, we also banter on about DTV Sequels to theatrical films, and we finally wind down with a bit of WASHING UP. Hope you all enjoy, and check out the trailer links in the footnotes!

Our DTV throwback this week is INANIMATE, aka HARBINGER DOWN starring Lance Henriksen, and our Short short is the zombie movie, DEADZONE. It looks like Stallone is following Bruce Willis into the dark realms of DTV, and this week we cover two films in which he's given prominent billing when in fact he's taking a back seat for much of the running time. So this week, Mike and Rich take a belated look at ESCAPE PLAN 2 (available on Netflix), which also manages to rope in the likes of Dave Bautista and Titus Welliver, as well as BACKTRACE, in which a amnesiac Matthew Modine tries to remember where he hid the takings of a heist gone wrong. Not only that but we have the latest chapter in the Death Race franchise, DEATH RACE: BEYOND ANARCHY - starring a guy with a forgettable name and directed by Don Michael Paul, who has a good pedigree of delivering exciting DTV action. As a lead in to our review, Mike delivers a BEGINNERS GUIDE to the franchise to-date. We also review the Australian Alien Invasion movie OCCUPATION!  Our DTV THROWBACK this week is the werewolf movie LATE PHASES, which can be found on Amazon Prime, and we also take a look at the short film, BLUEPRINT.

Have a listen, enjoy, sorry about the abrupt ending!
