Ah yes! It's Stupidfest. More stupid than the law that said you can convict a swarm of locusts for destroying your crops in the Middle Ages (I'm so proud to be British!). Stupider than not being allowed to name your pig Napoleon (it's illegal in France) or arresting a man for wearing a skirt (possible in Italy)
The Eating Coach presents some new and unheard Stupid Ideas of The Week for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

The opposite of addiction is not what you think – unless you happen to have seen Johan Hari’s TED talk Everything You Think You Know About Addiction Is Wrong.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
What on earth is Groucho Marx doing in Eating Coach HQ???
MAIN SECTION
In this episode, I talk about some key points from this talk. You don’t need to have watched it to understand.

Can food really heal depression? And if so, is it all you need? Let's investigate...
STUPID IDEA OF THE WEEK
…is the the when/then game. We’ve all played it – and let’s face it, it’s total pants (as we say here in good ol’Blighty).
MAIN SECTION
In today’s episode I look at how what we eat can impact our mental health. As important as the information are certain caveats that you need to be aware of. The main focus is on what foodstuffs we can introduce to improve our state of mind and emotional regulation.
Included is an extract from my new audiobook Natural Antidepressants. You can buy it today (link below) or….
…alternatively you can hear it over two episodes (this week and next) of Eating Coach Extra – these are paid episodes that will be coming out every other week.
Access Eating Coach Extra here:
https://www.patreon.com/EatingCoach
To celebrate the launch, I am publishing the first two (i.e. the whole of Natural Antidepressants) as follows:
Part 1 – today
Part 2 – next Wednesday 13th
For a low monthly fee you will now be able to hear new episodes every single week if you include the main free Eating Coach episodes.

Yesterday would have been Steve Irwin's 57th birthday. I talk about a hidden lesson the wildlife adventurer from down under has to teach us about how we are living our own lives.
The Cavebrain episode is here:
http://www.theshiftinside.com/audio-why-cant-i-stop-stress-eating-ask-your-cavebrain/
In this episode I talk about the work I did with one client and her suicidal thoughts. I discuss the link between eating issues and suicidal urges, and offer some questions you can ask yourself to give you some distance between yourself and this kind of overwhelm.
Be aware that the topic discussed is passive suicidal ideation – thoughts such as “I just don’t want to be here anymore” – as opposed to a definite intent to take one’s own life.
This episode contains an extract from an episode of my other podcast Harry Potter Saved My Life, which is available here:

This Saturday Question minisode is inspired by an argument I heard half of while standing in the supermarket queue. If you have ever lit the Olympic-size torch of your self pity and frustration with the words 'Why do I bother?, then I have a much more fun alternative for you. Enjoy!
