Varun Nayar spoke with Pacific Standard writer Jimmy Tobias about the future of public lands and conservation. Tobias recently reported on a key member of the Department of the Interior's work schedule, which showed a lack of meetings with conservation groups. They also talked about the politics of federal lands, and the potential future of a new Civilian Conservation Corps.  

On January, 28th 1969 Santa Barbara experienced the third-worst oil spill in American history. To commemorate the anniversary of this terrible event, this episode of 'The Edit' features an interview by KCRW's Jonathan Bastian with Pacific Standard reporters Kate Wheeling and Max Ufberg. During the conversation, Wheeling and Ufberg describe the reporting that went into their oral history of the spill, and how the fall-out from the spill shaped significant environmental legislation in the years to follow.
