Purpose: The Aerospace Medical Association is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes. It is the largest, most-representative professional membership organization in the fields of aerospace medicine and human performance.

Executive Director, Jeffrey “Jeff” Sventek

Jeff Sventek was born March 31, 1954 in Corry, PA and moved to Sherman, NY in 1961. He graduated from Sherman Central School in 1972. Following graduation, Jeff enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent the next 34 years in the Air Force, retiring in 2006 at the rank of Colonel.  He holds a BS in Biology (magna cum laude) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and an MS in Physiology from Rutgers University. Jeff is board-certified in Aerospace Physiology and is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association. During his Air Force career, Jeff served as an AF Aerospace Physiologist and was selected by the Air Force Surgeon General as the first-ever Lieutenant Colonel to serve as the Chief of AF Aerospace Physiology.  Jeff held a number of command and leadership positions from 1999 until he retired from the Air Force in 2006 as the Deputy Command Surgeon for the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH and as 14th Chief of the AF Biomedical Sciences Corps.

Following his retirement, Jeff served in various government-contractor positions providing human performance expertise for the Department of Defense. In January 2010, Jeff assumed his role as the eighth Executive Director of the Aerospace Medical Association in Alexandria, VA, the first non-physician to hold this prestigious position.

Jeff is the son of Joseph and Shirley Sventek of Sherman, NY and is married to Debra S. Jostand of Taylor Ridge, IL. Jeff and Debra have a son, Andrew, and daughter, Meagan, as well as four grandchildren.

I'm back in the classroom TODAY! Warn the masses as I land on Teaching Tuesdays this fall over at Butler COPHS. I couldn't remember what year this is for me - between being a student and teacher. I've honestly lost track. Grade 55,000? LOL!

Back to the burnout! And sorry - ONE MORE Debbie Downer episode on the (abysmal) stats behind burnout before we can get to the REMEDIES!

Listen in to the stats on burnout, just in case you haven't heard the memo that #burnout is at epidemic rates in the US - particularly in healthcare providers.

We'll get over to the remedies soon - but the first step in solving any problem is to DEFINE and RECOGNIZE it! 🙌

I wanted to talk about my fellow misfits for a second. You know the ones - the troublemakers. The difficult to work with brilliant geniuses who everyone else ignores.

Leaders: ignore them no longer, unless you want your organization to die.

Employees: think about who are your company's misfits - and then reach out and consider partnering with them on something revolutionary. 

2-4-6-8-who do we appreciate?
