The question that has kept philosophers and scientists alike busy since it was first asked: is mind separate from matter? In other words, is consciousness separate from the physical universe? In this short episode, I make the argument that, just as there is a pool of elements in the universe that we complex beings borrow from to make our bodies, there is a pool of consciousness that we borrow from to make our minds. Cheers to cosmic consciousness!
Carlos Amezcua is a UC Santa Barbara alumnus and aspiring biology teacher. He graduated in 2016 with a major in Evolution and Ecology and is a rich culmination of both scientific knowledge and life experiences. From evolution to educational reform to transhumanism, he offers an equally unorthodox and insightful perspective.
Aaron Amezcua is a nature-loving stargazer, pseudo-philosopher imagineer, and a conscience-exploring meditator. Join us for a mind-expanding conversation about the quantum leaps in consciousness of the cosmos (both past and future), the distinction between the physical world and the virtual world, and perhaps a little bit of discussion of free will ;) Sprinkle some physics concepts on top and you got yourself an Elderllama episode :) Cheers!
Tickle your consciousness with some easy-to-follow science and bite-sized chunks of general relativity, time dilation, and other fancy words. My goal is to rekindle that inner curiosity in you that society has oh-so-consistently attempted to stamp out. Throw on some headphones and journey into deep space, where you will gain perspective on the daily stresses of your life, be reminded that your seemingly-advanced society is actually pretty primitive, and be left wonderstruck by the potential future capabilities of human technology. Science is awesome and doesn't have to be this soul-eating, GPA-crushing class. Be curious and join me for your weekly dose of existentialism ;)
