Cults, suicide, snowstorms, cabin fever, ghosts?! Makes sense that The Lodge was a Banno selection. Does Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala's first English language film live it to our expectations? Well pour yourself a cup of hot cocoa and listen as we discuss this chilling psychological horror.
If this episode feels like 45 minutes of being underwater, it is because we wanted to capture the suspense and terror of this week's movie, William Eubanks sci-fi horror Underwater. We had low expectations for this film, yet it still disappointed us. How could an underwater monster film be so dull, why does Oz know so much about Cthulu, and why did Electro like it more than the others. All those answers and more this week on the podcast!
In part two, we round off the rest of the plot. As we continue to talk about it, we make connections we didn't make before. By the end of the episode, we realize that we enjoyed the movie more than we initially thought. What do you think? What did we get right or wrong?
Parasite won Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay over the likes of Martin Scorcese and Quentin Tarantino, has the Academy lost its mind? Apparently not because we talked about Bong Joon-Ho's movie for so long that we had to slice the episode in half like a fierce Jaguar attacking its prey. Part one gets through most of the plot, and we went through most of the pot.
For the time being, movie theatres are a thing of the past except in Scandanavia for some reason? Luckily we have Netflix who is continually releasing new movies. This episode we talk about Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia's directorial debut The Platform. Electro and Banno found the film to be deliciously disturbing. Lil' Lil is also back again and she has more than a 'lil to say about the film and her official nickname. Oz didn't watch this one but was more than high enough to be a part of the conversation.
We're sick about all this pandemic talk, and the cure comes in the form of this podcast. In our final episode covering the pandemic, we talk about Outbreak and Contagion. In one, Steven Soderberg paints a realistic picture of what we're living through today. In the other, Wolfgang Peterson thinks that Rene Russo would marry Dustin Hoffman. If you had Cuba Gooding Jr. or Matt Damon to save the day, who would you choose?
The world feels like a movie and sometimes movies get it right or wrong. We are talking about: 28 Days Later, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Crazies, and other movies that eerily relate to our world right now. Do you agree with our list or do you have anything to add??
Movie theatres seem to be a thing of the past at the moment but before the outside world was shut down we were able to make it out to one more movie. The Hunt is the latest film to come out of Blumhouse Productions which Electro and Banno really enjoyed. Oz was not really convinced of the story except for the excellent acting delivered by Sturgill Simpson. Listen as they argue back and forth trying to convince each other about who has the smartest opinion.
This episode, Electro and Banno talk about the latest edition of a story that goes back over 120 years. This time director Leigh Whannell takes a shot at The Invisible Man does an acceptable job, at least according to Electro. The guys also go on an extended conversation about the history of the universal monsters leading to an inevitable discussion about The Mummy.
This week, Electro and Banno try to figure out if they should ditch the podcasting game and instead start a boy band. This episode is what is called in the movie biz a "double-feature." We had to include a review of "Bad Boys' because "Birds of Prey' was so bad we could not dedicate a whole hour to it. The way we see it, Ethan Hawke is the only bird of prey we need!
