  • Heartland's Heartbreak: The Echoes of Elkhart’s Lost Trust
In this revealing episode of The Elkhart Tapes, host Derek takes listeners through the poignant unraveling of Heartland Tri-State Bank—a financial bastion turned cautionary tale. Once the lifeblood of Elkhart, Kansas, the bank's sudden collapse sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community. Derek delves into the human side of this financial disaster, exploring how the town’s once-celebrated leader, Shan Hanes, went from the pride of Elkhart to the eye of a storm of skepticism and scandal. Through interviews and personal insights, this episode weaves a story of trust built over decades and eroded in moments, and the lingering question of how a local institution's downfall could reverberate through the very fabric of a small American town. 'Heartland's Heartbreak' isn’t just the chronicle of a bank's demise—it's a reflection on the fragility of community bonds in the face of adversity.
