You've seen it on Instagram. Someone manifesting their dream life — effortlessly, whimsically, powerfully. And you can't help but wonder: does this actually work? And if it does, why does it seem to work for some people and not others?
Today Cynthia pulls back the curtain on what is actually happening in the brain and body when we choose to manifest — and what neuroscience reveals about why alignment isn't just a spiritual concept. It's biology.
Before We Dive In
Everything we talk about in this episode comes to life on September 17th at 6pm MST in a free 90-minute activation workshop — Let's Move: From Stuck to Creating. Guided reflection, a meditation, and a process to surface and claim what you've been pushing aside. If this episode resonates, that workshop was made for you.

What We Cover
Manifestation starts with a clear intention. Setting intentions, visualizing, journaling, meditating, affirmations — these aren't just feel-good practices. When you get clear on what you want to create and begin presencing it, you are sending a direct signal to your prefrontal cortex: this is a priority. This is what we're looking for.
The flip side is also true — if you are consumed by worry or what you don't want, you send that same high-priority signal. Your brain starts scanning for evidence of that instead.
Enter the RAS — your brain's filtering system. Your reticular activating system (RAS) is the sergeant in charge of filtering out everything irrelevant and honing in on what matters. The clearer your intention, the sharper your RAS filters. You start seeing opportunities, people, and possibilities that were always there — you just weren't looking.
The subconscious alarm system. Here's where it gets interesting. Your subconscious mind hears the new intention — and if it perceives it as unfamiliar, it reads that as a threat. Danger! And it sends an alert to the amygdala — fight or flight. The amygdala releases cortisol. Cortisol goes back to the prefrontal cortex and essentially shuts the whole system down. The focus weakens. The filter goes offline. And you're left with brain fog. Confusion. Stagnation. Stuck.
This is why alignment matters — and why "just think positive" isn't enough.
Two Ways to Work With Your Brain (Not Against It)
1. Make the unfamiliar familiar. Your subconscious is triggered by sensory experience, not abstract thinking. It doesn't understand "make believe." But when you presence the emotion you want to feel — really feel it in your body, in a safe space — your brain registers that as a real experience. It builds evidence that you have held, and can hold, that feeling. The threat response softens. The alarm quiets.
2. Build evidence. Your subconscious has to believe two things: that what you want is possible, and that you specifically have the capacity to create it. You don't have to start with the full vision. Start smaller. Take one aligned action. Let your brain say, "See — we do know how to do this."
Each small win creates dopamine. And dopamine goes right back to the prefrontal cortex — strengthening your focus, sharpening your filter, and reducing the perception of threat. The loop becomes self-reinforcing.
Cynthia also shares the story of telling her roommate to wake her up if the man of her dreams knocked on the door — and what to look for. Spoiler: that's not how she met Rhett.
But Here's What Neuroscience Doesn't Have.
Magic. Miracles. A higher power.
Manifestation is neuroscience — with a partner. It has all the biological mechanics to support it, and then it has God. We do our part: we get clear, we align, we build evidence, we presence the feeling. And then we trust. We trust that a higher power magnifies our request, clears a path, and brings back what we desire.
Neuroscience says: you can now see what was always there.
Manifestation says: and something greater is also working on your behalf.
Key Takeaways
- Manifestation is neuroscience — your brain is literally wired to find what you focus on
- The subconscious reads unfamiliarity as threat, which shuts down your focus and filtering system
- Presencing the feeling in your body builds evidence that it's safe — and possible
- Small aligned actions create dopamine, which strengthens the whole system
- Neuroscience explains the mechanism — but manifestation includes the magic
