Episode 56 of "In The Oil Patch"
This week on "In The Oil Patch": host Kym Bolado and her cohost Alvin Bailey have Congressman William Hurd in the studio! On his way to getting his degree in computer science, Congressman Hurd had an epiphany after seeing a sign during his freshman year at Texas A&M University. The sign offered two journalism classes in Mexico city for $425, and luckily, Hurd had just enough to cover the fee. During his stay in Mexico, he had a guest lecturer in one of his classes who was a former CIA agent. Hurd was captivated and showed up the next day at his office to learn more about the agency. Fast forward a few years and Rep. Hurd found himself employed by the CIA. Washington D.C., India, Pakistan, New York City and Afghanistan are all the places he worked to defend the United States as a homeland security specialist. You'll have to stream the whole episode to get all the information!

  • In The Oil Patch: Episode 54 – BHP Billiton
    Originally aired on 03/05/2016
Episode 54 of "In The Oil Patch"
This week on "In The Oil Patch": host Kym Bolado and her cohost Alvin Bailey have yet another special show in the books this week. Tommy Clark and Ed Mongan of BHP Billiton join Kym and Alvin on this week's show to tackle some very interesting topics, namely transparency and disclosure. The primary focus of this episode is the scorecard that the Investor Environmental Health Network (IEHN) has been releasing since 2013, detailing companies' use of best practices when disclosing information that goes into hydraulic fracturing operations. On that inaugural report, BHP Billiton was close to the bottom of the list. Ed, Tommy and the team at BHP Billiton were determined to top that list, which astoundingly they accomplished in 2014 (the very next year). Not being satisfied with their overall score, the team has been working day in and day out to get their score as high as possible so there will be no question about their ethics and quality standards when it comes to this controversial topic. Tune in and stream this episode to get all the details which led BHP Billiton to receive the title of "Disclosure Leader" by the IEHN.

  • In The Oil Patch: Episode 51 – Ambassador Ron Kirk & Omar Garcia
    -Originally aired on 02/13/2016-
Episode 51 of "In The Oil Patch"
This week on "In The Oil Patch": host Kym Bolado and her cohost Alvin Bailey have two great guests lined up for today's show. First off, we have Ambassador Ron Kirk on the line to give us his perspective on the oil & gas industry and where he believes the future of the industry is heading. Ambassador Kirk breaks down some pretty complicated topics in an easy-to-digest format. With his charisma and forward-thinking approach, Ambassador Kirk assures us that the industry has its peaks and valleys from time to time, but he feels there is no need to be up-in-arms over this recent fluctuation in oil prices.
After Ambassador Kirk made his departure from the show, we brought Omar Garcia, the President of STEER into the studio to share his expertise with us. Omar is a resident expert on our show and he's made multiple appearances over this past year with us. STEER's mission, as Omar eludes to during the interview, is to bridge the communication gap between the large oil & gas companies and the communities which they serve here in Texas. Omar's always a pleasure to have on the show and we hope you learn something new each time you listen to him on our show!
