We know that climate change is a problem, but what in the world are we supposed to do about it? That’s what Laura and I talk about today in Part 2 of our conversation on climate change! Last week, Laura explained what climate change is, why we don’t call it “global warming” anymore, and why it’s such a controversial topic. She also informed us on why climate change is an immediate problem that needs our attention right this very minute. If you missed it, go listen to Part 1 first! If you’re ready to talk about steps we can take to protect Mother Earth, then listen up! To view the full show notes, continue reading here or visit my website: www.heartfelthippie.com
I found this conversation with Laura to be really hopeful. That might not be something most people expect when discussing the current state of the world, but it’s true! She was able to give us all some ways that we can reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in our own homes, the biggest of which is to reduce our food waste by composting. But, she also reminded us that it’s not all on our shoulders - most of the worlds greenhouse gases are coming from giant corporations and industries, so it’s about putting pressure on them to do better! We can do this in two main ways - vote with your dollar by supporting businesses that have productive climate action plans in place, and vote with your actual ballot for candidates who will put forth money and effort towards solving the climate crisis.
I never like the podcast to be too “political,” but the truth of the matter is that some of our most pressing issues are also ones that our government is working on and that a lot of people disagree on how to solve! Once again, I want to emphasize that Laura and I don’t tell anyone who (or who not) to vote for in this conversation. Instead, we give you ideas for what to look for from our world leaders and how to make your voice heard. Keep in mind that this isn’t just about the US Presidential Election - this is for all kinds of elections, big and small, across the whole world!
After listening, I think you’ll also walk away from today’s conversation feeling hopeful and inspired. You’ll definitely be more educated, and I think you’ll even be entertained! Laura leaves us with some great recommendations for books and podcasts to check out, and she also reminds us of two important things: all of our choices have consequences, but it’s important to have grace for ourselves and others as we seek to make the world a better place.

The world is buzzing about Netflix’s latest documentary - The Social Dilemma is an eye-opening look into the mindsets of the giant corporations that so many of us spend hours each day making richer and richer. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and even our email accounts and search engines deeply depend on how much time they can get us to spend on their sites. The longer we do, the more money they make. And have you noticed that sites like these don’t ever end? You can scroll and scroll and scroll, but you won’t ever find a stopping point! Sneaky, huh? The compelling documentary puts forth the argument that these are some quite unethical business practices, and I think that most people who watch it will end up agreeing. However, it also points out that we can’t wait around for these corporate conglomerates to decide to change their profit-over-people models. It’s time to take matters into our own hands! That’s why I’m talking about combatting phone addiction today on the show.
Let’s face it - we’re all phone addicts here! If you think you aren’t , let me ask you this - do you check your phone within the first 15 minutes of getting up in the morning? Yep, that’s a sign of addiction my friends, just like it is with that morning coffee craving! But it’s okay, we’re all in the same boat here. And with a little practice, we can kick the bad habits and get our screen time down. I’m discussing tips for overcoming addiction in today’s episode, including things like:
And of course, starting this all off by setting a practical goal for yourself. How much time do you really want to be spending on your phone each day? If it’s anything less than 3 hours, that’s a step in the right direction considering that’s how much the average person is on their device daily! When you hear stats like these, it’s going to make you want to do better. And you can! Now, hit play and set your phone down!

PSA: Climate change (or global warming, as it’s more notoriously known) is not the same as the weather you’re experiencing right now! This common misconception has led many people to believe that climate change just might be a hoax. It’s for this reason that I wanted to talk about it on the show. What’s happening with climate change? What does climate change even mean? Why is it such a controversial topic? And of course, how can we stop it?! Laura is answering these questions and more on today’s episode! To view the full show notes, continue reading here or visit my website: www.heartfelthippie.com
Laura Diez is a sustainability expert. By day, she works for her local government in the state of Georgia in the environmental realm. By night, she uses all her knowledge about the planet and sustainability to host her very own podcast - Eco Chic. I asked Laura to be on the show because, let’s face it, I’m no scientist or climate expert. I needed help to break down the big, intimidating topic of climate change and put it into terms that anyone can understand! Laura truly helped to answer some confusing questions about this matter and, most importantly, explained why climate change needs our attention right now.
It was important to me that this episode air before election day is here because, well, it should influence the way that we vote in November. However, no matter when or where you’re listening to this, this conversation is everlasting. Climate change is going to continue to have impacts on us, and we’re going to continue to have impacts on it. Simply put, it will always be something that we should act on. In Part 1, Laura is helping us to understand what’s currently happening with the global climate. She also answers some tough questions like, why should people of faith be concerned about climate change? And, why do some people deny that climate change is happening? I learned so much from Laura and I know you will too!
And of course, make sure you tune back in next week for Part 2 where we discuss the solutions to climate change. I really loved this part of the conversation because Laura gives us some practical steps we can take as individuals, but also informs us on what to look out for in public policy. You don’t want to muss it!

Pelvic health, painful sex, and physical virginity. These are all things discussed on today’s show, but I promise you that your biggest takeaway is going to be the call to action that Meghan gives us all. We are all here on mission to make the world a better place - what are you passionate about and why aren’t you doing anything about it?? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Meghan has a way of making me feel all fired up, and it’s just as true on today’s Part 2 episode! To view the full show notes, continue reading here or visit my website: www.heartfelthippie.com
In Part 1 of this conversation last week, Meghan educated us on what feminism is, what it isn’t, and why we all need it. Today for Part 2, she’s educating us on some of her favorite topics within feminism. In case you didn’t already catch it, we do discuss things like sex and the female anatomy, so if you have little ears around you may want to pop in some headphones before you continue listening! We also discuss how Meghan handles the critics and the negative feedback (because there is a lot of that!). But there’s also a lot of positive feedback and people who Meghan has changed the game for. She reminds us that we’re all going to face critics, and that that’s okay. Sometimes we might have to cry and face the mean things that people say, but it’s not these people who we’re accountable to - it’s to ourselves and to God.
And for these reasons, Meghan also empowers us all to take a stand for what we believe in and do something about it! It doesn’t have to be anything major like starting a podcast or writing a book, but it can be as simple as taking the time to educate ourselves more on the topic and discussing it with family and friends. None of us are too small to make a difference, so let’s use our voice for something good! You’re also going to enjoy all the recommendations that Meghan has for us today of things like books, podcasts, and shopping sites! You can view the links to those things and anything else we referenced today below.
