Episode 8 of the Equalized Outdoors Podcast is another solo run with MrJayCam, covering the latest news, community work, and a problem the outdoor industry can no longer pretend not to see.
In The Brief, we break down changes to the Major League Fishing format, the new live location-sharing feature in the onX Hunt app, and several wildlife and public-land updates—including the approaching comment deadline for the Roadless Rule.
The Situation Report covers the first North Texas Longbeards event, Centershot Blue coming to Texas, the latest from the Equalized Outdoors Newsroom, and upcoming YouTube projects. MrJayCam also discusses volunteering at the State Fair of Texas, returning to Virginia for archery season, and why supporting conservation, veterans, and mental-health initiatives remains central to the work of Equalized Outdoors.
Then, in Off the Streets, it is time to retire the notion that Black people do not hunt—or that Black hunters are newcomers chasing a trend. Representation is not the problem. The problem is what some people see when they look at it.

September 11, 2001, will forever be a day associated with unspeakable tragedy. It was a time of immense loss, and the nation grieved as one.
The country also united in a way we haven't seen since, and it shouldn't take a tragedy to unlock that.
This is my short account of where I was that day, and what I decided to do about it. You see, I realized it's not just a story or an event to me. It's an integral part of my own personal story.
I hope those of you that hear this, heed my words and reflect. If it resonates, I hope that you share it.
Peace and Love,
MrJayCam
MrJayCam flies solo in this episode and uses the show to catch listeners up on what’s been happening in his world, from travel and archery community support to public lands advocacy and hunting season prep. It’s part update, part call to action, and part reflection on why the outdoors community matters so much to him. He also shares a deeply personal story about being stolen from after returning from Wisconsin, then walks through how the archery community stepped up to help him replace essential gear. The episode closes with music, mental health encouragement, and a reminder to stay legal, stay safe, and look out for one another.

In this episode of the Equalized Outdoors Podcast, MrJayCam sits down with Deja Charles-Tompkins, host of the Black In Wild Podcast, for a wide-ranging conversation about representation, public lands, outdoor access, and the stories that shape who feels welcome outside.
Deja shares how her outdoor journey started with soft entry points like backyard camping and beach days before Yosemite National Park became the place that changed her life. From there, she talks about her background in history and anthropology, her work as an interpretive guide, the mentors who helped her see herself in public lands work, and why she created Black In Wild as a platform for stories that too often go unheard.
The conversation also gets into the real difference between being visible outdoors and actually feeling like you belong, the barriers that still exist in national parks and public lands spaces, and how independent media can help build new entry points for people who are curious but unsure where to start.
Plus, Deja joins Off the Streets with a trail etiquette message everyone needs to hear, and this week’s Soundtrack features “You Got Me Feeling” by Parcels.
This episode is about more than recreation. It’s about invitation, representation, and what can happen when someone simply says, “You want to come with us?”
On this episode of the Equalized Outdoors Podcast, Justin sits down with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Wild Turkey Program Leader Jason Hardin to discuss what’s really happening with wild turkey restoration across North Texas and what it could mean for future hunting opportunities near the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.

They also address common misconceptions about stocking, the reality of hunting public land near DFW, and why predator management and prescribed fire remain critical to keeping birds on the landscape once restoration succeeds.
Justin also breaks down current access challenges facing Metroplex hunters, discusses walk-in hunting models used in other states, and highlights how conservation partners like the National Wild Turkey Federation and Turkeys for Tomorrow are supporting restoration work across Texas.
