Karen Filewych has more than twenty years of educational experience as an elementary teacher and school administrator. She is currently an English Language Arts Consultant for Edmonton Catholic Schools. Her passion for literacy began as a young child with nightly bedtime stories and weekly trips to the library. In 2007, she pursued this passion further by completing her Master of Education degree in the area of literacy. Karen's first book - How Do I Get Them to Write? - was published by Pembroke Publishers in May of 2017. Her second book - Freewriting with Purpose - was published in January of 2019. Both books are practical guides for the teaching of writing and include lists of mentor texts for each area of study. Her website, www.wordschangeworlds.ca, highlights the power of words and provides teachers with regular book reviews and teaching ideas.

Kelly Gallagher teaches English Language Arts at Magnolia High School in Anaheim, California, where he has worked for nearly 35 years. He is the former co-director of the South Basin Writing Project at California State University, Long Beach, and the former president of the Secondary Reading Group for the International Literacy Association. Kelly is the author of several books on adolescent literacy, most notably Readicide: How Schools Are Killing Reading and What You Can Do About It and Write Like This. Kelly’s latest book, co-written with Penny Kittle, is 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents.

Leslie's interest in technology began while studying music at the University of Southern California. She quickly realized the value of utilizing computers for music mixing and recording. She grabbed her 300 baud modem, jumped on the Internet (before anyone really called it the internet) and started looking for music resources. She soon realized she was spending more time discovering technology than playing music so she changed her major and tried to figure out what geeky thing she could do for the rest of her life.

After graduating from USC with a Business and Marketing degree in 1989 and a quick stint as a Trainer, Leslie joined Apple Computer in 1992. When the Internet took off in 1994, Leslie was one of the first Apple employees assigned to study Internet growth and implementation.

In 1997, Leslie was roadkill on Apple's road to recovery and part of their massive lay off. Leslie planned to spend most of her huge severance package golfing and waiting a few months to look for a job. The day after her layoff, her phone began to ring with Apple customers requesting consulting, training and presentation services. Before she could say fore, Fisher Technologies Inc. was created to help educators with their technology implementations and decisions.

Fisher Technologies Inc. is now a worldwide company (meaning one employee named Leslie gets to travel the world teaching) specializing in presenting emerging and practical technology solutions to educators all over the world.

Rachel French, MA Ed, is a certified Independent Concept-Based consultant, presenter, and trainer. Rachel has presented numerous workshops in Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. She has presented on Concept-Based Learning at the AEM International Baccalaureate Conferences and the AGIS conference. Rachel works as a consultant supporting schools to plan and implement Concept-Based Inquiry Units. She also coaches and provides feedback to teams of teachers on curriculum development.

Rachel and Carla Marschall co-authored ‘Concept-Based Inquiry in Action’ a book and video series published June 2018 by Corwin.

Rachel is the Director of Professional Learning International (PLI) founded to support international schools to access leading professional development. Steven G. Feifer, D. Ed., NCSP, ABSNP is an internationally renowned speaker and author in the field of learning disabilities, and has authored seven books on learning and emotional disorders in children. He has nearly 20 years of experience as a school psychologist, and was voted the Maryland School Psychologist of the Year in 2008, and awarded the 2009 National School Psychologist of the Year. He was the recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Contribution to the Education and Training of Psychologists award by the Maryland Psychological Association. Dr. Feifer serves as a consultant to a variety of school districts, and is a popular presenter at state and national conferences. He has authored two tests on diagnosing learning disabilities in children; the FAR and FAM, both published by PAR.

Julie is a certified trainer in Visible Learning and Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction. She is a James Madison Constitutional Scholar and taught social studies for many years. She is a Verified Master Trainer and has Coaching and Change Management Certificates from the Association for Talent Development (ATD). Julie previously served as the director of Curriculum Innovation for a network of schools in Washington, DC.
