Prostatitis is a urologic condition involving inflammation of the prostate gland. There are 4 types of prostatitis, each having a different cause, pathophysiology and symptoms. For instance, prostatitis can be caused by an acute bacterial infection, leading to a host of signs and symptoms including urinary tract infection symptoms and fever. Other types of prostatitis can be cause by the reflux of urine, which irritates and inflames the prostate, leading to a sterile prostatitis where no bacteria is present. In this lesson, we discuss each type of prostatitis, including the signs and symptoms of each, how each of them are diagnosed and how each are treated.

Thiamine (vitamin B1) is a vitamin required for energy metabolism, including the metabolism of glucose. Thiamine deficiency can caused by a decreased dietary intake, decreased absorption, increased utilization or increased losses. A thiamine deficiency can initially cause vague symptoms, and then subsequently may lead to conditions like Wet and Dry Beriberi, Wernicke’s encephalopathy, and Korsakoff’s syndrome. Eye Floaters (also known as Vitreous floaters) are an eye condition involving debris floating in vision. Floaters in the eye can be a very common issue, and can increase in frequency and number with age as well as can be caused by a variety of eye conditions including retinal tear/detachment (which would cause a lot of floaters to occur), posterior uveitis, posterior vitreous detachment, and other conditions. What is juvenile polyposis syndrome? In juvenile polyposis syndrome, young children develop multiple polyps throughout the gastrointestinal tract, especially in the large intestine, and unfortunately some of those polyps can develop into colon cancer at some point in their life.
