  • I Went Viral – Soul Forge Podcast 276

I went viral this past week. I walked into Walmart and saw that they were adding coin receptacles to their shopping carts. Pulling out my phone, I made a quick Tiktok video. After uploading the video to the service, I thought nothing more about it. Somehow, it attracted a lot of attention from the Tiktok community. Three days after I posted the video, it had 5 million views. A week after posting the video, it had amassed 10.5 million views and more than thirty thousand comments. I went viral, and you can too!

Going viral is an online phenomenon that any active Internet user is most likely already familiar with, at least to some extent. When the word viral is used to describe a video, it doesn’t refer to the type of content. Rather it’s to the way in which it gains popularity. A video goes viral by quickly amassing millions of views due to social media users sharing it with their friends and/or followers. And the more people share, the higher the number of views.

In short, a viral video is a video spread by users who share and like it. This increases its number of views, making it reach viewers outside the original target audience group. Due to the fact that sharing is a key element of creating viral content, it’s mainly encountered within the world of social media. When you manage to make your video go viral, there are really no limits as to how many people can actually watch it. A sensible assumption would be that the potential audience could even consist of as many people as there are users of a particular platform. This is, of course, only a theoretical scenario. But still, it’s not exactly accurate because viral posts and videos tend to travel between different social media platforms.

  • The 42cast Episode 173: The Man in Black

Everything gets a bit dark this week as The 42cast looks into the latest film to come from the DC Universe, Black Adam. We discuss this as Dwayne Johnson’s passion peace that he’s been trying to get made since 2014. We talk about the plot and themes and discuss whether they make any sense in the context of what we’ve seen from DC before. We also get into the casting choices and what we think about the portrayal of various characters that have never been seen in live action before. We also opine on the inclusion of elements like Amanda Waller and Superman and how those both effect the narrative. We also discuss the Shazam connection and we talk about what a Black Adam franchise could have looked like.

Due to time constraints there is no five-minute controversy this week.

This week Ryan, James, and Nate join the cast.

  • Flopcast 560: The Weird Al Game Part 1 – No Mercy

Flopcast episode 560! We’ve had “Weird Al” Yankovic on our minds lately, probably because Kevin just participated in an American Sci-Fi Classics panel all about Al. (Check it out! We have a YouTube link just for you.) So we just invented The Weird Al Game, in which Kevin and Kornflake try to guess each other’s favorite Weird Al songs. This week we’re covering Al’s first seven albums. Does Kornflake want a new duck? Will Kevin visit the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota? Join us as we dare to be stupid. (Admittedly, that’s business as usual around here…) Also: Kornflake is celebrating Ice Cream For Breakfast Day, because apparently she loves rocky road.
