Visiting the Second Age of Middle-Earth to witness the creation of the Rings of Power comes at a price. For Jeff Bezos, the cost is one billion dollars and counting. For Mike, Mike, Chip Johnson, and M.D. Jackson, all it took was an Amazon Prime membership, but has the lavish streaming series influenced them for good or corrupted their souls to darkness? Plus, cinema snob Brad Jones thumbs his nose at the Geek Seat. All this, along with Angela’s A Geek Girl’s Take, Ashley’s Box Office Report, Michelle’s Iconic Rock Moment, and Shout Outs!

Roomate from hell is the story of one woman’s horrendous experience.

The most common reason for sharing housing is to reduce the cost of housing. In many rental markets, the monthly rent for a two- or three-bedroom apartment is proportionately less per bedroom than the rent for a one-bedroom apartment. In other words, a three-bedroom flat costs more than a one-bedroom, but not three times as much. By pooling their monthly housing money, a group of people can achieve a lower housing expense at the cost of less privacy. Other motivations are to gain better amenities than those available in single-person housing. Also, to share the work of maintaining a household, and to have the companionship of other people.

A roommate is a person with whom one shares a living facility such as a room or dormitory except when being family or romantically involved. Similar terms include dormmate, suitemate, housemate, or flatmate. Flat is the usual term in British English for an apartment. Flatmate is the term most commonly used in New Zealand, when referring to the rental of an unshared room within any type of dwelling. Another similar term is sharemate (shared living spaces are often called sharehouses in Australia and other Commonwealth countries).

A sharehome is a model of household in which a group of usually unrelated people reside together. The term generally applies to people living together in rental properties rather than in properties in which any resident is an owner occupier. In the UK, the term “roommate” means a person living in the same bedroom. In the United States and Canada, “roommate” and “housemate” are used interchangeably regardless whether a bedroom is shared. However, it is common in US universities that having a roommate implies sharing a room together.

This is Krista’s story about helping out a friend. That friend turned out to me a nightmarish roommate. Get ready to laugh and cry on this exciting episode of roommate from hell!

We are keeping it spooky for just a little longer! We broke this episode into two parts, so this week it’s just Martha’s topic, the SCP Foundation. Learn about the mysterious world of Special Containment Procedures, and the mysterious group dedicated to capturing and containing all sorts of supernatural and paranormal phenomena. (If you believe everything you read on the Internet, that is…)

This week’s promo: Monkeeing Around!

Flopcast episode 547! It’s a good old fashioned Flopcast Top 4 ½ List, and the subject is bears. We have bears from TV (remember Grizzly Adams and his pal Ben?), cartoons (you know the Care Bears, but what about the Wuzzles?), songs (in case you were wondering how Lyle Lovett feels about bears), breakfast cereal (Sugar Bear really wanted to fatten up the children), and more. This is the goofiest bunch of bears you’ve seen since the Super Bowl Shuffle. And some very important bears are missing from our list, so let us know your favorites! (Send them over to the studio with a pic-a-nic basket.) Also: Happy Birthday to A-ha keyboardist Magne Furuholmen. Kornflake even tries to pronounce his name, because it’s no better to be safe than sorry.
