  • Is It Poutine or Putin – Soul Forge Podcast 249

    Is it poutine or putin?

Comparing and contrasting my 2 main homes or cities. I was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo), went to university in North Bay, and moved to Timmins at the age of 26. Five and a half weeks ago I moved back to the Soo from Timmins where I spent the past 19 years.

There is quite a bit of difference between the two cities. The Soo is a heavily Italian based town. Timmins is very Frence. People in the Soo are more friendly, while those in Timmins are more apt to have a vanity license plate. How people pronounce the word ‘poutine’ is different, as well as what they call the long weekend in May. So, is it poutine or putin? How do you say it?

While both towns are isolated and surrounded by nature, Sault Ste. Marie has more culture and travel opportunities. The Soo boasts a wonderful boardwalk and many old buildings. Timmins has many small lakes where people enjoy hunting and fishing.

Also in this episode, I discuss chocolate milk. As a border town, the Soo has quick access to the USA. American chocolate milk is more fatty, and therefore more tasty.

Have you ever wondered how Canada Post operates? Do you enjoy getting your mail delivered to your door? And what are those grey boxes on street corners? In the second half of this episode, I tell you all about how the mail delivery system works. Also, I explain how the job can differ based on the particular depot you work out of. Topics include: flyers, taxi cabs, sorting, supervisors and mailboxes.

The episode concludes with various smaller topics. We are talking camping season and brotherhood. Yard sale season is also upon us. How am I enjoying TikTok? Find out on this episode! Also, is it poutine or putin?

  • Cosmic Pizza Podcast Episode 51 – Stupid Deaths

The Cosmic Pizza Podcast brings you episode 51. This week Shawn is away on a sabbatical, so Dan, Paul discuss stupid deaths from the Darwin awards website. There are far to many to discuss, as I am sure you are aware so we just picked out our favourites. In case you do not know what the Darwin Awards are, here is a quick explanation. Some people try stupid things and die as a result. Hopefully this is done before they manage to have children and therefore remove the stupid gene from there family tree. This is a type of natural selection as referred to by Charles Darwin, hence the term the Darwin Awards. These awards have been given out by the creators of the Darwin Awards website for the last 30 years or so and you can find may more of them at the website, linked below.https://darwinawards.comWhich is your favourite Darwin Award? • Flopcast 522: You Sleepy Podcaster

Flopcast episode 522! After a too-long break from the show, the Mayor of Chickentown is back as our special guest co-host! (It’s more court-ordered community service, we assume.) We start with a look at the recently-announced 2022 inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (We’re happy about Lionel, Dolly, Pat Benatar, and all those Durans. On the other hand, still no 38 Special, but we can dream…) Then Kevin reports on this year’s Watch City Steampunk Festival, where amongst all the geared and goggled humans, we found old friends Jessica, Sergio, and Panda! (Jessica gave a stunning performance as festival queen, she and Sergio are working on new music with their metal band Anaria, and Panda is actually Draculina in the comic books now. Our friends are pretty ridiculously amazing.) Kevin also picked up some weird old paperback books, including Mad books by Al Jaffee and novels based on Leave It to Beaver and The Brady Bunch. (Just try to keep us away from a Brady book. We’d read one about Fake Jan alone.) Also: A surprise caller on the Flopcast Hotline! (You’ll probably recognize the voice.) Next week: Our tenth anniverary episode. Do not get excited.

A correction from this episode: Kevin gave the completely wrong name for that excellent comic book shop in Waltham, Massachusetts! It is actually The Outer Limits! Sorry about that!
