In this live bonus episode, we had planned to simply be MONKEEING AROUND with special guest Derek Miner to discuss the film, Love and Mercy. However, with Brian Wilson’s recent passing, our conversation took a more somber turn as we also share our memories of seeing Brian live and our thoughts on his life and career.
This episode was originally broadcast live on YouTube, 6/20/2025, on what would have been Brian’s 83rd birthday.
Monkeeing Around is a part of the ESO Podcast Network, Executive Producer Mike Faber.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a movie from 1982.
Released in July of 1982, and running just under 2 hours, the film stars Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. It is a musical comedy with a score of just 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. Shawn and Leah watched a VHS copy of the film on their vintage VCR. Neither Shawn or Leah had seen the movie before. Their thoughts, feelings and insights are presented in this, the 31st episode of the Have Coffee Will Travel Podcast. This is actually the second recording of the podcast as the recorder did not work on the first try.
The synopsis of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is as follows:
Miss Mona (Dolly Parton) runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history in a small Texas town. The locals have a good relationship with the institution, and Mona is respected in the community. The sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds), also looks out for the Chicken Ranch due to his past with Miss Mona. However, when pious reporter Melvin Thorpe (Dom DeLuise) exposes the brothel, outside interests want it shut down, putting the governor (Charles Durning) in a tough spot.
Also on this episode. we are talking about upcoming vacation plans and our Etsy shops. On every episode of the show, we give you an overview of what has sold for us in the last 2 weeks. We would love it if you followed our shops on Etsy. Leah’s is called collectandcaston, and Shawn’s shop is rustedrobottoys.

Madeline Brumby and Shane Morton join Jim for a 50th Anniversary celebration of the very first Summer Blockbuster film – Steven Spielberg’s “JAWS,” Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton and a host of residents from Martha’s Vineyard. Based on the novel by Peter Benchley, the story centers around a Cape Cod island town beseiged by a rogue Great White Shark. The film had an enormous impact on movie goers. Last week we boldly went so far that we needed a whole other episode to come back. As a result this episode gives you the second part of our exploration of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In this episode we tackle such questions as “does a legal procedural work in space?”, “how many times can you bust a series’ format before it’s too many?”, and “how many original series characters do you need to have before it’s too many?” Along the way we discuss musicals, genetic augments, and relationships. We also talk about missed opportunities and what we hope to get out of the third season.
As this is the second part of a panel there is no five-minute controversy for this week.
This week Stephanie is cohost and James and Keith join the cast.

Joining me for July is the Lady Hiss to my Skullivan, the one and only Lindsay Smith! She talks about her years working as a character designer and co-art lead on “Solar Opposites”, and her new role on the forthcoming “Rick & Morty” spin-off series “President Curtis”! Then we have a thorough discussion of the Netflix monster hit animated feature “KPop Demon Hunters” for which I decided to Takedown many notes while drinking Soda Pop until I was DONE DONE DONE! I also read your comments from the Flopcast crossover, including literally 20 questions from listener Josh “Rugdog” Ruggles! Just when you thought this might actually be a short episode, nope!

Flopcast episode 691! If you’ve just been waiting all Summer long for The Flopcast’s annual robot-themed Top 4½ List… well, first, what’s wrong with you? Go to the beach or something. But also… here it is! Our theme this year is “recycled robots.” Sometimes a robot would be designed for some movie or TV show, and then later repurposed for some other movie or TV show. Forbidden Planet’s Robby the Robot is the prime example. Robby had a decades-long career popping up in one project after another. A few oddball robots even started making appearances in the real world, so you could meet them at nightclubs or shopping malls. We’ll look at a few of these jobbing journeyman robots (four and a half of them, to be exact), and we have a special guest to show us the way. Our old pal Chris Cummins, host of Sci-Fi Explosion and expert on all manner of bizarro pop culture, is back! Chris knows a thing or two about weird robots. And now you will too.

Job obligations and SDCC announcements derailed our attempts to bring you a show reviewing last week’s episode, so this week we’re going to do our best to talk about two episodes — “Shuttle to Kenfori” (episode 3) and “A Space Adventure Hour” (episode 4). It’s ambitious, but I think we can do it!
Earth Station Trek is a part of the ESO Podcast Network, Executive Producer Mike Faber.

The Music of 1985
This week we turn our musical chronometer back 40 years to talk about the albums that were released in 1985! Because it was such a huge year, we’re doing two shows, and in Part 1 we’re tackling January – June. We share funny stories and fond memories relating to albums by Talking Heads, Dire Straits, Tears for Fears, Heart, the Hooters, Run-D.M.C., Megadeth, Marillion, the Smiths, and even Hoodoo Guru and Pseudo Echo (remember them??), plus many others.
As always, we have a Spotify playlist to accompany this episode that you can access HERE.
