Mystery Science Theater 3000 was an experiment in entertainment that grew far beyond the wildest expectations of its creators. Featuring a host character and several puppeteered bots, the show purported to tell the story of an exiled spaceman forced to endure an experiment that tested the limits of the human mind subjected to the worst films of all time. The character endures by making fun of the films along with his robot companions. Growing quickly from local television program to featuring on a succession of cable channels the show’s popularity soared to extreme heights until it was cancelled ten years later. In recent years, the series was brought back on Netflix. In this episode we take a look at MST3K. We discuss the phenomenon of watching characters watch something else and why it appeals. We talk about our favorite episodes. We also debate who the greatest host of the series is.
This week’s five-minute controversy asks whether Pepé Le Pew’s scene should have been cut from Space Jam 2.
This week Beth, Page, and Mark join the cast.

Flopcast episode 703! For our Halloween episode, we’re revisiting a favorite subject: the cheapo department store Halloween costumes produced for decades by the Ben Cooper company. Kids loved slipping into their uncomfortable plastic masks and weird vinyl smocks for an evening of begging the neighbors for Twix bars. We look at superhero costumes (including some odd ones like Web Woman), Krofft costumes (you could be a Sleestak, a Bugaloo, or even Dr. Shrinker), and lots more, including the infamous Fonzie “He-e-y!” costume. Also: The classic Universal monster movies! A brilliant new monster t-shirt from cartoonist Kerry Callen! And the new Muppet-style versions of Franken Berry, Boo Berry, and Count Chocula! So have a festive Halloween, kids. We recommend shivering in a pumpkin patch all night until your angry sister drags you inside.

The one and only Tim Crist, a.k.a. ShoEboX of the comedy synth-punk juggernaut known as Worm Quartet is my guest this month, where we discuss why Luke seemingly likes everything he watches and ShoEboX seemingly hates everything that isn’t Pac-Man related. ShoEboX breaks down the 80’s animated series & toy line “M.A.S.K.”, and they get into discussions regarding the Fox TV series “Allen Gregory” and the Pixar film “Cars 2”, and which one of those two was unfairly maligned and which one was horrible piece of garbage we regretted viewing any amount of. Start taking bets as to which is which. I also read your comments, so leave some more comments so I have some to read in a future episode, dammit! This week we are joined by our good friend Wayne Badie for a discussion analyzing the different command styles we see in Star Trek, primarily of the various ship and station captains that our favorite shows focus on. How different would it be to serve under Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Burnham, or any of the others? What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of each?
Earth Station Trek is a part of the ESO Podcast Network, Executive Producer Mike Faber.

Animatronic Anarchy: Freddy vs Willy
This week on Have Coffee Will Travel, we’re diving deep into the chaotic, grease-stained world of murderous animatronics. That’s right — it’s Freddy vs. Willy, a movie showdown between Five Nights at Freddy’s and Willy’s Wonderland. One has a haunted pizzeria full of jump scares and lore; the other has Nicolas Cage silently demolishing possessed mascots while never saying a word. (Honestly, the man deserves an Oscar just for eyebrow acting.)
Shawn and Leah compare storylines, themes, and the overall creep factor — from Freddy’s backstory to Willy’s unhinged energy — and try to decide which animatronic apocalypse they’d rather be trapped in. Spoiler: neither seems ideal, but at least one offers free soda.
Outside the cinematic carnage, life’s been equally eventful. Leah’s stepping boldly into her new career path, officially launching her foot care clinic. She’s in that exciting (and slightly overwhelming) stage of ordering equipment and setting things up — basically building a business one callus at a time.
Meanwhile, Shawn’s keeping Canada Post running and accidentally going TikTok viral in the process — with a video that’s hit over 63,000 views! From sorting mail to managing fame (kind of), he’s proving that postal work is far from boring.
So grab a cup of coffee, hide from the animatronics, and join us for a mix of movie madness, career leaps, and unexpected internet fame.
