Today marks the anniversary of Rangers' Cup Winners’ Cup Final triumph over Dynamo Moscow and we take a trip down Memory Lane with Barcelona Bear Willie Johnston.

The 24th of May 1972 is a date Rangers fans will remember forever as Willie Waddell’s side defeated their rivals 3-2 in Spain to clinch the Ibrox club's only European trophy to date.

Colin Stein opening the scoring midway through the first half and Johnston struck either side of the break to give the Light Blues a commanding 3-0 lead.

But goals from Vladimir Eshtrekov then Aleksandr Makhovikov with just minutes to go set up a tense finish as Rangers had given everything and the players were out on their feet.

The team defended brilliantly in the closing stages though and Rangers held on for a famous win.

Willie, who had tasted defeat in the 1967 Cup Winners’ Cup Final to Bayern Munich, was determined he wouldn’t leave Spain on the losing side and he discusses the Final plus the 1972 European run with Russell Walker.
