We all love sword movies, right? Whether its knights, barbarians, cavaliers or samurai. Even (especially?) when they include dragons or wizards. Most of us who have pursued historic reenactment have to come to our love through cinema as much as historical reading.
We decided it would be fun to reminisce about our favorites, both the best AND the worst! Join us for a fun trip and be sure to add any that we no doubt missed in the comments!
Franchise is defined differently by different people. It has elements of appearance, the exercise of right and privilege, it can even be likened to the act of 'being.' We explore a variety of views and discuss our personal observations of this singular virtue.
In this chapter we use Propriety, in the sense of 'appropriate-ness' or 'acting properly' as an extension of Courtesy. That is, showing respect for an occasion or venue, and being courteous enough to behave in a manner consistent with the expectations of the hosts/sponsors and other guests or attendees.
As we find with many of the other virtues, Humility is necessary to realize that your individual attitudes are not the most important consideration in a given situation.
With St. Valentine's Day around the corner, we thought it might be worthwhile to distribute this handy guide. If you're stuck for a gift, or aren't sure what might be appropriate, we present the definitive, universal and foolproof manual for demonstrating every possible level of affection or regard for another person.
Just kidding, we didn't do all that. But it might be a useful thought-starter if you need one. Have fun, and be excellent to each other.

Courtesy, as one of our Twelve Virtues, is more than just being polite. To our knightly forebears, courtesy meant those manners necessary for interaction at a noble court.
So what does it mean to us now? How do manners and etiquette affect our everyday interactions, and how do we apply chivalry to those interactions and our social behaviors? In many ways, this is at the core of our discussions.

A somewhat SCA specific topic, prompted in part by a recent survey. We discuss what Peerage Orders are, some of their history and where they might be headed. We also touch on what we call things in the Society, how they affect our perceptions and in some ways lay the tracks for our future.

Among all the virtues, Humility stands is one of the most elemental. The capacity for honest self-assessment is at the core of improvement and advancement in virtually every endeavor. Whether in sports, or professional pursuits, or the simple expansion of your own knowledge, you must acknowledge your shortcomings as well as your strengths to make progress.
Part 3 of 3: The American Western was central to the national identity a generation ago. We look at how those tropes and conventions echo to us now, and how they helped establish ideals of behavior, for better or worse, in the US.
