The Evil Stepmother Speaks

In typical ‘Betsy Chasse’ style, Betsy tells it like it is in her new book, Tipping Sacred Cows. I love this book because it challenges all the ‘spiritual teachings’ that we have heard about happiness, love, and spirituality.  Of course, the irony of this book is that these challenges/questions are coming from the ‘mother’ of spirituality. Most of us know Betsy best as being one of the producers of the award-winning film, What the Bleep Do We Know?!  If you are unfamiliar with this film, it is probably one of the quintessential pieces of work that explores the connection between quantum physics and consciousness. 

On our show, we're going to talk about Betsy's latest journey through divorce and the spiritual questions that it sparked.  Speaking of being a mom, Betsy is the mom to two children, Elora and Max. We're going to question and, maybe, answer some of life's greatest questions.  What a tremendous honor to welcome Betsy Chasse.

They say that the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  Today's quick tip challenges all of us.  If we were to be honest with ourselves, do we do the same things?  Do we avoid the hard work associated with change?  Do we want to avoid any vulnerability to our stepfamily members? Do we just want things to be the way we think it should be rather than seek to understand?  Let's talk.

I used to love the holidays and, now, I don't!  I don't want to go to that holiday celebration!  I wish I didn't have to be with those people.  There is no easy answer to our feelings at all the holiday times.  I define holidays as any celebration throughout the year that may dictate a joint celebration.  Don't you just hate that?  Don't you feel exposed?

Stepmoms on The Evil Stepmother Speaks Facebook page posed today's radio show topic. Should Stepmom have a private meeting with Mom? It's a common question. The answer is unique to every family.  If you are new to the family, you may want to let Mom know that you want the best for the kids and do not want to replace her.  Or, there may be other issues and you wonder if you should initiate a meeting.

When you marry and form a stepfamily, one of the foremost thoughts and fears is to make sure that we know that we are not Mom.  We know that.  But, it made me think about Mom and some of the classic teaching philosophies Moms have passed on throughout the centuries.  It begged the question, “Do we want to be Mom?  Why does everyone just assume that every stepmother wants to be Mom, pretend to be Mom, or aspire to be Mom?

The truth is that one of the things that Mom always has to offer is her unique brand of wisdom.  This show gives some stepmother wisdom that will rival Mom anyday.
