This is a great graphic organiser to use in class and get the students to organise their ideas by identifying key ideas/messages and outline supporting examples/evidence.

The Five W’s is also know as the Who, What, When, Where and Why graphic organiser.

Students identify who was involved, what happened, when it happened, where the action took place and why the event occurred. A great graphic organiser to use across a range of key learning areas.

This graphic organiser could be complete individually or collaboratively.

The Evidence Web is a simple graphic organiser where students are required to identify relevant examples/evidence for a particular topic.

This is a great activity to use to summarise a topic, concept, chapter or unit. It could also be completed individually or collaboratively.

The Essay Planning Tree is a useful template for students to use when they are preparing to write an essay.

Students commence by writing their thesis, identifying their arguments and briefly outlining their examples/evidence.

This template could be provided to students to use over a period of time, to help with exam planning or as a journal document to monitor student progress and thought for different questions.

The Eight Note Summary scaffold is a useful scaffold to use when you require students to create concise succinct summaries of a topic, unit, module etc. This scaffold allows students to represent the main ideas and display them on digital post-it notes that can be printed or shared for future reference.

This scaffold is a great individual and collaborative activity to complete in the classroom. This scaffold can be used in a range of subject areas for different abilities groups and can be easily modified.

The Character Summary template is a simple, yet effective way to learn about and summarise characters/major personalities from text/history.

In this template students identify who the character is, what the character does (actions/behaviours), how the character speaks and what the character represents (this could be in relation to the moral/message/theme of the text).

This is a great collaborative task where students can complete a template for each relevant character.

The Chapter Summary template is a great resource to use to summarise a text as you are reading it. This template is specifically created for an English/language classroom.

Students will be able to summarise and consolidate what they have learnt about characters and plot events in what they have been reading, and use this information to compose a succinct chapter summary.

This activity can be completed individually or collaboratively using Jamboard!

Sometimes when starting a new topic or module, or during your study of a topic students just need to brainstorm anything they already know or have a learnt. This is where the Brain Dump template comes in handy.

With this scaffold students can individually or collaboratively ‘dump’ their knowledge on this template. This completed brain dump can them be shared or printed with students.

The Assessment Reflection Grid is based on the research of Australian John Hattie. Hattie’s research suggests that feedback and reflection can have a significant impact on student success and improvement.

After brainstorming easy and hard skills required to complete an assessment/assignment students then take these skills and place them in the relevant box in the Assessment Reflection Grid.
