Unfortunately, that is not the case with most men. With this teaching, we will take a look at your past, bring the redemption of the cross into it and set ourselves up for what's next.

When you look out - no, further - what do you see? Do you see a limit? A place you're not supposed to go? Or do you see an invitation? Imagine if the original disciples, turned apostles, only saw one horizon: Judea, or Galilee? Turns out, Jesus had other plans for them to go further than they could have ever imagined. While this teaching isn't about those guys pushing themselves further out, it is about you seeing yourself out there, standing on that outer limit to see...more horizons.

When you think of the enemy, or a villain - what comes to mind? He he/it "out there"? Yes, there is for sure an enemy who wants to destroy you. He's at work night and day to do that. But, more often than not, he's got a collaborator. Guess who it is? Look in the mirror. That's who we're focusing on with this episode.

Every (good) story has an protagonist. In other words, a hero: the person at the center of the whole thing who is transformed and comes through. The unique thing about your hero journey, however, is that in this story, as should all other of his disciples, you as Christ's follower point to him at the real Hero of the real Story. That becomes your "sacrifice" - to defer your glory and final resolution to him for others.

All of us know there are parts of our story we like and parts we don't. Unfortunately, the enemy loves to take those parts we don't like and give them more weight than they deserve. We let those parts drive the worth of our story. How sad is that! When you finally take full ownership of your yet-to-be-done story in all its hills and valleys, well, that's when the enemy has lost some his power over you.

While they didn't get it, Israel was supposed to be God's light, shining on a hill for the rest of the world. God's amazing glory (his character) for all to know for themselves. And as God's modern Israel, his church, we have the same mission.
