With the death penalty in the headlines, Justin and G5 talk about how God sees life, death, and justice. Every person carries the image of God, from the best of us to the worst. What does that mean for how Christians respond to execution, murder, and punishment?

They look at capital punishment in the Old Law, the cities of refuge, Romans 13 and the role of government, and Jesus showing mercy to the woman caught in adultery. They also go to the verses where God says plainly that He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked and would rather they turn from their ways and live. The conversation covers dehumanization, the danger of celebrating death, and how repentance, mercy, and the hope of eternal life change the way we see everyone, including the people we find hardest to forgive.

Scriptures: Genesis 1:27, Genesis 9:6, Numbers 35, Romans 13:1–4, 1 Peter 2, John 8:1–11, Matthew 26:52, Ezekiel 18:23, Ezekiel 33:11, Luke 13:1–5, Matthew 6:19–20, Matthew 7:1–2, John 14:6, 1 Timothy 1:15–16

Minutes after being baptized, Evan sits down still dripping wet to talk about the journey that led him there. He opens up about growing up with infant baptism and thinking he was already "covered," a brutal burnout semester at Texas Tech studying mechanical engineering, and the moment in a car ride that finally made it click. Justin and G5 unpack what scripture actually says about baptism and why declaring your faith for yourself matters. If you have questions about faith or baptism, email us — details below.

Ricky Jenkins — 47 years into preaching, currently at Campbell Road Church of Christ in Garland, TX — sits down with Justin and G5 to talk about how he "fell into" a life he swore he'd never choose, growing up as a preacher's kid, and what it took to finally love the work. The conversation turns to a candid, wide-ranging discussion of biblical manhood: the caricature of masculinity sold by online figures who demean women in the name of strength, versus a Christlike model of love "proven by action and measured by sacrifice." Ricky closes with a memorable answer on what it means to go the extra mile — giving preference and honor to others before yourself.

Noah Diestelkamp returns to unpack the Sermon on the Mount — starting with a surprising connection between Jesus' wilderness temptation ("man shall not live by bread alone") and him "opening his mouth" to teach in Matthew 5. The conversation moves through Moses imagery in Jesus' teaching, why there's no third option between building your house on sand or rock, the difference between moral good and rewarded good, and what it really means to "lay up treasures in heaven." They close on Matthew 7:12 — the Golden Rule — and why Jesus' command to actively do for others is harder (and more radical) than simply not doing harm.

Ever feel like "busy" is the only answer you give when asked how you’re doing? In this episode, we dive into why exhaustion has become the default diagnosis of our generation and how moving into an "achievement society" is leaving us burnt out.

From competing with elevated standards (and even AI) to balancing personal output, we explore why our bandwidth is stretched thin—and how scripture offers a way out.

What we cover:

• The Achievement Trap: Why we constantly feel the need to outperform ourselves.
• The Impact of AI & Social Media: How the baseline for performance keeps rising.
• Redefining the Yoke: Finding true rest through Matthew 11:28–30 and Galatians 6:4.

Welcoming back Caleb Speer to the Extra Mile, the subject of discussion falls on discipleship. What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? Obviously, the definition falls on something more than simple belief.

The level of engagement of a disciple includes wholehearted action. What strategies could we employ in our own lives to bring us closer to God?

Whether these strategies mean more study, extra meetings, small groups, focused work endeavors, volunteer hours, or even world travel to evangelize, the commitment is required for discipleship.

Welcoming back founder Caleb Speer to the podcast, he brings a bit of perspective for the weekend visit during our Youth for God meeting. The theme of the visit is Purpose. When looking at the trends of our culture, people are searching for community and meaning.

Looking at the book of Ephesians, the message from Paul explores the transition you take as a Christian of change toward a member of God’s family. God’s love is open to all who themselves love. The path toward joining the family of God is found on the pages of the Bible.

Within is guidance of a change in life, considerations of internal mindset and considerations for your heart. This change of heart leads to a change in behavior in line with who Jesus is. Discipline, orderliness, and order are inherent in your new walk as a Christian.

In today’s episode we have a special guest to discuss Christian apologetics. Josh Weaver is currently working on a degree at Texas Tech University, and is interested in discussing examples and reasonings for the Christian faith.

Those who have done some studying on the various arguments of Christian apologetics will know these subjects are highly publicized and debated. The modern atheist movement in the late 20th century gave rise to televised debates, lectures, book series, and polarizing discussions regarding the existence of God.

We invite you to engage in the comments, as well as write in with questions on the existence of God.

We welcome special guests Wes and Mindy Peters to discuss the benefits of VBS on your congregation’s ministry. The emphasis and work focused on a summer series of lessons for the kids is an effective tool for teaching the stories of the Bible. This emphasis provides an opportunity for a focused exposure to the stories of the Bible.

Visuals being employed to emphasize stories helps solidify these stories into memory. Though it takes a lot of work to pull off, the benefit to the kids is worth it.

Need help with VBS planning, or advice on how to make your VBS have a greater impact with your congregation? Let us know in the comments or email to be connected to Mindy and Wes.
