Toni’s surrogacy journey: In both journeys Toni was a gestational surrogate - which means her womb was the baby's home, but not genetically related. Gestational surrogacy is where the embryo is created outside of the womb, and the egg is not of the surrogate. There are no biological ties. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is the egg donor and the egg is fertilized by the sperm of the intended father. In both scenarios - if done properly (legally) the intended parents become the legal guardians.
