When Shana broke off the engagement after complaining to colleagues that Fleetwood was abusive, Fleetwood stabbed Shana to death in her D.C. apartment.     Amadou Diallo was just 23 years old—and unarmed—when the New York City Police Department fired 41 shots towards him, 19 of which struck the Guinean immigrant. In the ensuing trial, the four officers who fired the 41 shots were all acquitted. Today, the country is reeling from the heartless execution of George Floyd, an African American Minneapolis resident killed by an officer. Even if the officer is charged, can we expect that he will actually see jail time? Or will history repeat itself, as in the case of Amadou Diallo?

  • The Unlawful Execution of George Floyd
    The story starts off as most police killings do: Police in Minneapolis were called about someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill at a neighborhood grocery store. Two officers responded, and what we know next comes from a widely circulated video showing a White police officer pinning down an African-American man, named George Floyd with a knee on Georges’ neck. Five minutes into the 10 minute video, Floyd is motionless- and dead, even as the officer’s knee remains on his neck. Now, George Floyd joins the ever- growing list of Black lives lost to unnecessary police violence.
