What, then, does God the Holy Spirit do? First, the Holy Spirit participates in the ministries led by God the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit participated in the works of creation and providence unfolded by God the Father. Not only this, He also participated in the works of salvation accomplished by God the Son by bearing witness. This refers to the ministry that the atonement fulfilled by Jesus would be applied and completed to each and every saint.

To understand what the baptism of the Holy Spirit is, we need to first understand why Jesus was baptized by John and died on the Cross. As Romans 3:23 states, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” every human being is born as a sinner who cannot but commit iniquities before God, and according to Romans 6:23, which tells us that “the wages of sin is death,” each and every one of mankind therefore cannot avoid but be punished to death as the wages of sin.

The Holy Spirit refers to the third Person among God. The faith of this Trinity is the most fundamental and core faith. This truth can be all known and understood by believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit. Why? The reasons are as follows.

Most Christians think that believing in Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit are two different things. This is why they are trying very hard to receive the Holy Spirit. When most of the believers in Jesus are mired in such confusion, how much frustration would God the Father have! The only way for them to escape from so much confusion is to clearly know the gospel of the water and the Spirit and believe in it.
Jesus said in John 7:38, “He who believes in Me, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” The phrase “as the Scripture has said” means that whoever believes in the gospel of the water and the Spirit can receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of those who believe that Jesus Christ came to this earth by the water and the Spirit and has saved sinners from their iniquities.

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” Even for Christians, this question is very unfamiliar. The Apostle Paul asked the above believers in Jesus whether they received the Holy Spirit when they first believed, and then testified to them how they, who had believed in Jesus without receiving the Holy Spirit, could receive the Spirit. In the above passage, by once again bearing witness to the power of the baptism of Jesus, Paul renewed their faith.

In God’s plan of salvation, the ministries of Jesus were absolutely required. The contents of these ministries were the baptism that Jesus received from John, His shouldering of the sins of the world and death on the Cross, and His resurrection. A promise was made between God and us that He would give the Holy Spirit as a gift to those who believe in this truth. The Holy Spirit whom God gives to those who have been forgiven of their sins is a gift that is permitted only to those who believe in the gospel of the water and the Spirit exactly as set by God.

Let us examine what it is that the Holy Spirit does when He comes to this earth.
The above passage tells us that the Holy Spirit convicts the world “of sin.” Put differently, the Holy Spirit convicts people of their sin that leads them to hell. This sin is the sin of not believing that Jesus took upon all the sins of mankind once and for all by coming to this earth in the flesh of a man, and being baptized by John, all to save sinners.

What is the most biblically sound repentance? It is to receive the remission of one’s sins by believing in the Word on the baptism and blood of Jesus.
No one can receive the remission of sins and become sinless before God through their devoted prayers of repentance. Moreover, it is even far less the case that they received the Holy Spirit by doing so. Receiving the remission of sin and the Holy Spirit is possible only for those who know and believe in the truth of the baptism and blood of Jesus. The Spirit of God comes as a gift to those who have received the remission of their sins.
