A Public Affair

The Fall of Roe

Listen Later

Today’s show is dedicated to this week’s leaked Supreme Court opinion and the likely end of Roe v. Wade.
First, Friday host Esty Dinur speaks to Jill E. Adams, executive director of If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice, and Robin Marty, director of the West Alabama Women’s Center and author of Handbook for a Post-Roe America. They discuss why abortion access is so crucial and practical advice for how people can prepare for what is most likely coming.
In the second half of the program, State Senator Kelda Roys outlines what to expect here in Wisconsin and why it’s more important now than ever to vote in the midterm elections.
Jill E. Adams, J.D., is executive director of If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice. She was previously the founder and strategy director of the SIA Legal Team, founding executive director of the Center on Reproductive Rights and Justice at UC Berkeley, and the executive director of Law Students for Reproductive Justice. She is executive editor of Cases on Reproductive Rights and Justice (Foundation Press, 2015), the first legal textbook on the subject.
Robin Marty is director of operations at West Alabama Women’s Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Previously, she was the senior political reporter for Rewire News, a reproductive health and justice news site, where she covered state-based abortion bans and other assaults on reproductive rights. She is the author of Crow After Roe: How “Separate But Equal” Has Become the New Standard In Women’s Health and How We Can Change That (Ig Publishing, 2013) and The New Handbook for a Post-Roe America: The Complete Guide to Abortion Legality, Access, and Practical Support (Seven Stories Press, 2021).
Senator Kelda Roys represents Wisconsin’s 26th Senate District. After law school, Senator Roys served for four years as executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, where she developed innovative and successful efforts to expand emergency contraception access through state and local policy. Under her leadership, Wisconsin passed the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Act.
