In his talk, "Sanctifying Our Lives in the Digital Era," Raymond Nader, president of the Family of Saint Sharbel, addressed the challenges of maintaining a spiritually meaningful life amidst modern distractions. Drawing on Christian teachings and the life of Saint Sharbel, Mr. Nader emphasized the importance of deep reflection on life’s ultimate purpose. He highlighted Saint Sharbel’s virtues of humility, obedience, and detachment from materialism, urging everyone to adopt these qualities in their own lives, regardless of their circumstances.

Mr. Nader stressed that sanctity is a universal calling, achievable through a personal relationship with God, regular prayer, and living according to Christ’s commandments. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by Christians today, particularly in the Middle East, and encouraged perseverance in faith, inspired by Saint Sharbel’s resilience.

On the occasion of Saint Sharbel's Feast Day, July 21, 2024, the Family of Saint Sharbel in the United States participated in the celebratory Mass at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Washington DC, presided over by Monsignor Peter Azar, with the attendance of members of the community.

Following the Mass, Mr. Raymond Nader, Founder and President of the Family of Saint Sharbel gave a talk inspired by the feast of Saint Sharbel, focusing on the crises and challenges the world faces today. He stated that the world is on the wrong path and that humanity must reconsider its course to truly live according to God's will for all believers.

Mr. Nader continued by saying that we are called today, more than ever, to live out moral values and family values to attain eternal salvation. He emphasized the need to strengthen our spiritual lives with prayer and reflection, understanding that we must follow the right path and avoid the wrong one. Saint Sharbel continually calls us to strive for holiness, following his example.

A Talk by Mr. Raymond Nader, Founder and President of the Family of Saint Sharbel, given at the celebration of the feast of Saint Sharbel, July 13, 2024, at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, USA. 

In his talk, Raymond Nader emphasized the critical role of faith in the current world. He highlighted Saint Sharbel's miraculous works worldwide, which include healing and interventions that guide people back to God.

Mr. Nader explored the concept of spiritual warfare, explaining the historical battle between God's kingdom and Satan's influence. He identified three primary demons: Baal, Ashtar, and Molech. He pointed out contemporary signs of this influence and warned that as society distances itself from God, it becomes more susceptible to demonic influences, leaving a spiritual void that Satan eagerly fills.

According to Mr. Nader, Saint Sharbel’s miracles are divine messages urging humanity to return to God; his work is a beacon of hope, reminding us of the power of God’s presence and the importance of living a life aligned with divine purpose.

He concluded with a call to action.

This includes purification, petitions, and incense. He explains that in early Christian liturgies, there was a separation between the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Chorbishop Beggiani discusses how the role of the Holy Spirit is emphasized, particularly during the consecration of bread and wine. Calling down the Holy Spirit is seen as crucial for transforming the elements into the body and blood of Christ.

The Lord's Prayer is also included in the liturgy, followed by an act of absolution to remind participants of their forgiveness and readiness for communion.

The Maronite liturgy is deeply symbolic, emphasizing preparation, transformation, and the presence of the Holy Spirit throughout the Eucharistic celebration.

In this first part of a two-part podcast series, Chorbishop Seely Beggiani focused on explaining what liturgy is and why the Maronite liturgy is structured the way it is. He began by emphasizing that throughout history, the relationship between God and people has been seen as a communal endeavor. Liturgy, therefore, is the collective response of a community to God's invitation and a way for people to connect with each other and with God.

The Maronite liturgy, originating from the Antiochian Church and the Church of the East, places specific emphasis on certain aspects of worship. Chorbishop Beggiani explained that liturgy developed after Christ's departure from Earth, with early Christians meeting in homes due to persecutions. Its structure is characterized by three main phases: the Service of the Word, the Service of the Eucharist (Pre-Anaphora), and the Service of Communion.

In this fourth part of Chorbishop Seely Beggiani’s lecture on Syriac spirituality, he continues his discussion on the importance of understanding human beings as created in the image and likeness of God. He emphasizes that the Syriac writers believed this aspect of human nature to be fundamental from the moment of creation, not just after the fall of Adam. Therefore, Syriac spirituality centers on the idea that human beings possess a spark of God within them from the very beginning.

The process of spirituality, according to Syriac thought, involves growing up from the moment of baptism. The spiritual life is seen as a journey of discovering the divine presence already within oneself.

The state of perfection is the ultimate goal in the spiritual journey, wherein the soul experiences Divine Light and wisdom. Chorbishop Bejjiani talks about a union with the Divine, where the soul becomes like God and experiences a sense of wonder and awe. He emphasizes the importance of spiritual wisdom and the transformative power of a deep and intimate relationship with God.
