The Fandom Files is joined by William Yu, an activist and screenwriter who started the mega-viral movements #StarringJohnCho and #SeeAsAMStar! Fed up with Hollywood's long tradition of overlooking Asian-American actors, Yu started photoshopping John Cho's face on blockbuster movie posters, confronting audiences with their own biases and forcing people to acknowledge the viability of Asian-American actors in leading roles. Two years later, using AI and deepfake technology, he placed Asian-American actors' faces in pivotal scenes from major studio movies, once again challenging our ingrained prejudice. Yu talks to The Fandom Files about his campaigns, making the deepfakes, and how they've changed his own life. All this and more in this episode of The Fandom Files!
