After a brief hiatus, we are BACK and ready to #freebritney!
On today's episode, we're diving deep into Britney Spears; pop icon, teen queen, and one of our all-time favorites. We are joined on the show by Kyla, a native Vermonter, dog mom, and another huge Britney fan for a deep dive into Britney's life, legacy, and music of course!
We chat about the first time we heard Britney, and the songs we grew up singing and dancing to. We dish about our favorite songs, her best albums, and Kyla's trauma over buying her first Britney CD, lol.
Then we get into the deeper stuff; how Britney was vilified by the media and slut-shamed incessantly as a young woman. Why were the paparazzi so obsessed with her? Why did people ask her about her virginity? What would happen nowadays if a reporter asked that question to a pop star?
It gets real deep here, as we chat about topics such as Britney being a "role model" and the media's representation of young female pop stars in the late 90s and early 2000s. All of that attention must've affected Britney deeply, and we discuss how her mental breakdown in 2007 would be handled much differently nowadays. At least, we hope!
Kyla and I talked at length about Britney's conservatorship, and what is being done to help #freebritney. The legal battles continue in California, and Britney is literally fighting for her life, her reproductive rights, her kids, and her career. As it turns out, this is just the tip of the iceberg; tune in now to hear all the details and get our take on the situation!
