The Farmville Baptist Church Podcast

Our world is a fear-inducing place - and sometimes, that can seem overwhelming.  Yet Jesus told his followers - and us - to not fear, but instead to invest in the kingdom of God and be ready for whatever Christ asks us to do.

In this week's message, Pastor Adam revisits one of the core commands of Jesus - to seek God's kingdom first - and explores how this frees us from the worry and anxiety that is part of how life operates far too often.

Sometimes, Jesus addressed needs in the Gospels that are strange or unknown to us - but not in this passage.  Here, Jesus tells the story of a rich man who has received a windfall, an unlooked-for blessing, and plots to increase his own comfort and ease.  That path is not the path of life, Jesus says; rather, he encourages all who hear his words to think of those in need and share what God has blessed them with at every opportunity, because nothing that we have been given is ours to own.

For four weeks, we will be looking at the only miracle Jesus performed in all four Gospels: the feeding of the 5000.  In John 6, we find that Jesus was expecting that there might be someone in the crowd that day that wanted to join him and his disciples in the work of the kingdom - because the way of Jesus is about partnership.
