Ciao amici! Welcome to another installment in this ongoing series about the other half of our weekly explorations: #whatsavesus, where for a time we're examining films beyond the horror genre. This week's entry comes to us courtesy of our guest, Vera Goudie, and it's served with a heaping helping of warm-heartedness and trenette al pesto: Pixar studio's LUCA!
This most recent film in Pixar's prestigious canon may appear simplistic at first, but as we quickly uncover, there are a multitude of lovely and inspiring truths sitting beneath the surface. This is a full-spirited and lively conversation that we hope you all enjoy. Silencio, Bruno!

Heeeellllllooooooooo, cherubs! Welcome back to another installment in our series of listener-curated, not-necessarily-horror films on this half of 2021 known as #whatsavesus. This week, we're heading to Baz Luhrmann's bombastic, big-feeling musical ode to the glory of bohemian ideals: MOULIN ROUGE! Nathan and Reed have somewhat divergent takes on this film, which prompts a very honest discussion about the nature and necessities of romantic love and how we cultivate the relationships in our lives. It's one you won't want to miss and we hope you enjoy it!

3... 2... 1... Welcome back to another installment of #whatsavesus! This time, courtesy of special guest and official continuity guru Steve Beckley, we are discussing Robert Zemeckis's CONTACT. The film was an unconventional summer blockbuster about explorations of faith and science through the lens of Carl Sagan's novel about the search for extraterrestrial life and the questions that linger about who we are and what we believe. The three of us have an honest and open conversation about the possibilities and the wonders of what lies beyond our understanding, as well as an unpacking of the wrestling we all do between our faith and our skepticism. It's a fun and hope-filled discussion this week and we hope you enjoy it!

Hei Hei, everybody! We're kicking off a whole new chapter in the Fear of God saga with a few months following conversations about #whatscaresus specifically about #whatsavesus. So, while the frights and spooks won't quite be up front and center the next few months, we'll still be having all the usual laughter and thoughtful conversation you've come to know and (hopefully) love.
First up is the selection by Nathan himself: Disney's MOANA! This lovely film has some profound observations about creation's redemption and the invitation we have to participate in it, so we want to invite you to relax and enjoy as we venture beyond the reef into uncharted waters at the Fear of God. It's going to be a great time, and what else can we say except... ;-)

It's all come to this -- all the partying, all the 80s vibe, all the rad hair, synth music, and trapper keepers have come to our final party of the month and a conversation about the whole season of STRANGER THINGS 3! We're joined by Jess Fischli and Vera Goudie for a true party vibe -- complete with an actual game night! -- and a surprisingly thoughtful conversation about what this season of Stranger Things had to say about the ways in which we fear change, particularly in our relationships, and the necessity of embracing it in order to "keep the door open 3 inches" towards the wonder that life and faith and tomorrow hold for us.
We had a ton of fun recording this one and we hope you have a lot of fun listening to it as well.

Grab your cotton candy people, fire off your flying popcorn gun, and hornswoggle that poor old farmer because we are going under the big top for our next installment in #thoseFoGgin80s, a series of podcast parties featuring classic 80s films and a run through STRANGER THINGS 3. This week, it's none other than KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, given the FoG treatment by your usual hosts as well as special guests Blake Collier, Steve Beckley, and Matt Ruff. And if you think there isn't any thematic substance to be discussed in this film.... well, you're mostly right. But the guys still manage to find some interesting observations about our tendencies to make fools of ourselves -- by insisting nobody else will make a fool out of us.
There's also a stopover in Hawkins for episodes 5 & 6 of Stranger Things 3, as well as all the usual fun and frivolity, so buckle up, watch out for those shadow puppets, and enjoy our 80s party treatment of the likes the Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

Time to get totally righteous dudes and dudettes because we're back for another 80s Party featuring Santa Clara's best (oily saxophone) and worst (those $&#*@ vampires) as we invite Dave Courtney, Ian Olson, and Jackson Harper onto the show to discuss Joel Schumacher's THE LOST BOYS on this installment of #thoseFoGgin80s. After another brief stopover in Hawkins again for episodes 3 & 4 of STRANGER THINGS Season 3, we dive right in to this stylish vampire classic of the 80s, have a lot of laughs, and also find the time to observe how easy it can be to normalize yourself to some pretty dangerously abnormal things.
It's a wild ride on the special shelf of the fridge this week. We had a lot of fun recording it and we hope you have a lot of fun listening to it.

Hey everyone and happy summer! We're coming to you with a very special bonus episode courtesy of novelist and screenwriter Grady Hendrix. Grady is a Bram Stoker award winning author of several bestselling novels including My Best Friend's Exorcism, We Sold Our Souls, and most recently The Southern Book Club's Guide to Vampire Slaying. His latest novel -- which becomes available on July 13th, 2021 -- is called The Final Girl Support Group and it comes highly recommended.
Grady was gracious enough to sit down with Reed for an insider's tour of his career and his major works, including a sneak peek at The Final Girl Support Group. It's a really fun conversation and we're so grateful he spent some time with us. Please check out gradyhendrix.com for more information about his work, enjoy this lively discussion, and mark your calendars to check out The Final Girl Support Group on July 13th!

Cowabunga dudes and dudettes! After half a year of some heavy-lifting conversations about what scares us, it's summetime and we're having a PARTY! Welcome to a mini-series of four special 80s-themed episodes featuring special guests, classic 80s flicks, and Stranger Things season 3!
We kick things off by welcoming some of our favorite FoGgers: Asia Swartzentruber and Andy Whitfield to discuss the 90-minute "that ain't right" fest that is Clive Barker's HELLRAISER. After a brief stopover in Hawkins to unpack episodes 1 & 2 of STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3, we venture into that creepy upstairs bedroom, open up the puzzle box and devour the cenobites whole with a conversation that is not only fun, but also explores the ways in which our own obsessive pursuit of certain things may be the slow erosion of our very humanity.
This is a fun time and we hope you enjoy our inaugural installment of #thoseFoGgin80s.

2021 is still here! And thankfully so are we. As you may well know by now, we've spent the first half of the year tackling YOUR submissions for what SCARES you. And now, it's time to complete the picture, where once again we need YOUR help and participation to discover what SAVES us.
Take a listen to this brief unpacking of our vision for #whatsavesus, including some hopefully helpful examples of the kinds of material we'd love to hear from you about so that we can discuss them on the show. We can't wait to hear from you and are very excited for what the rest of 2021 will be bringing us thanks to each and all of you!
Check out this mini-bonus episode and we'll see you in the FoG
