Here are the author's notes from this week's message:
How to Have Favor with God and People
A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.
Proverbs 22:1 AMPC
*- favor: acceptance
*- Happiness should never be our goal. It may be the result of our goal—pleasing God.
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
Job 5:17 KJV
*- happy: to go straight, to advance, to be blessed.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding In the sight of God and man.
Proverbs 3:3-4 KJV
*- mercy: kindness (especially as extended to the lowly, needy and miserable)
*- truth: faithfulness, reliableness
33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not refuse or neglect it.
34 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.
*- favor: goodwill
36 But he who misses me or sins against me wrongs and injures himself; all who hate me love and court death.
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; With favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
Psalm 5:12 KJV
*- favor: goodwill
*- Follow the favor. Don’t try to impress or compete, or you’ll block God’s favor.
*- If there’s no favor, don’t try to attract it any longer. God may be shielding you from it…
*- Our sinful flesh repeats attempts to attract, which reaps corruption. Instead, wait on God‘s favor. Never be desperate for anyone but Jesus or anything but God’s Word.
*- You’ll never need to chase what God favors you to attract.
And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man.
Luke 2:52 (AMPC)
*- favor: good-will, loving-kindness
Make this decision, and commit to it—that your life will only include mercy, truth, wisdom, and righteousness.
We will not adopt a “wait and see what happens” mindset. Instead, we will live with intentional purpose—choosing to initiate, and when opportunities arise, respond with mercy, truth, wisdom, and righteousness.
