Dr. Phipps and I discuss his novel, Bákn, set in both Canada and Iceland, in which a family struggles between themselves and becomes embroiled in criminal plots. We had an intense discussion about the main themes of the novel, such as the impact of the 2008 financial crash on Iceland, the cultural differences between the two nations and the development of each of the main characters.
