Local authorities delve into a cave system, bringing along a caver who recently made her way out with minimal memory of what happened to her and her friends and encounter unhospitable dwellers.

The Descent: Part 2 is the follow-up effort to the tense, and at times, terrifying movie, The Descent. Where the original was successful in not only creating great characters with motives, a claustrophobic environment, and creepy subterranean creatures, the sequel does the opposite on almost all of these things. The monsters are back, but there are so many of them fighting the characters throughout the movie, any and all tenseness is minimal. The characters have forced motives and there's a few twists that had us shaking our heads. As a standalone movie, it would be decent, but we just believe it's not a necessary sequel to a movie that really told a complete story. Watch the movie and catch our review.

After watching this movie, it's evident that there were a lot of deviations from the first movie in the method of killing as well as changing up some of the horror tropes we've come to expect. Devout Irish villagers in a North American settlement are ravaged by disease while a woman and her daughter are thriving amidst suspicion of witchcraft.

The Curse of Audrey Earnshaw starts off with a bang with a mysterious witch coven's use of a young girl to remain prosperous during a harvest, while a local village is struggling. The movie does teeter and starts to lose cohesiveness with the backstory of the witch, her capabilities, and the lack of self-awareness for her purpose. The time period and character actions as it relates to the specific time the film is set is also confusing. With some strengths, the movie was better than expected, but with a lacking ending, the film doesn't set itself apart from the rest of the genre.

The Faculty is a 90s scifi horror movie like no other, paying homage to so many films before it. It features an amazing cast of breakout stars, and it's directed by Robert Rodriguez. It truly feels like The Thing meets The Breakfast Club as a sci-fi mystery that stars Elijah Wood, Josh Harnett, Jordana Brewster, Clea Duvall, Robert Patrick, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Usher, Salma Hayek, and Christopher McDonald to name a few. It's a cult classic that pits an unlikely band of high school teens, meeting all the stereotypes, against the teachers who are in charge and play host to a parasitic alien race. An FBI agent with an odd connection to a serial killer discovers cryptic clues to a pattern of murders that hits close to him.

Longlegs is successful in blending a true crime vibe with the occult and is overshadowed by the creepy and unsettling performance of Nicolas Cage. The film had great marketing efforts to really build up tension and create that ominous mystery that leaves the viewer haunted by the presence and evil depicted by the murders in the movie. Maika Monroe has a standout performance in her effort as the FBI agent assigned to the murders that are spanning through decades. While Longlegs is a movie that will work for some, it may not land the same way for others, but certainly was shot and acted very well. Watch the movie and catch our review.

Hush takes home invasion horror to new heights by pitting a masked killer up against a writer who is living in the woods alone and doesn't have the ability to hear or speak. Mike Flanagan, who has made a name for himself with several successful horror movies and tv shows, creates a tense atmosphere in this movie that continues to build over the duration of the film. What appears to be a hopeless situation is countered by the protagonist's inability to give up and be a worthy adversary. Watch the movie and catch our review.

The Loved Ones is an excellent movie that is both brutal and comedic and it continues to get more sadistic as the film goes on. It focuses on themes of loneliness, acceptance, and grief and ties up all loose ends by the end for a full depiction of the character motivations. The movie also tosses in a few twists that make the movie such a fun watch. The Loved Ones was a surprise and one that we've gone back to a few times to rewatch. A grieving mother-daughter relationship takes a turn for the worst, when young Leah performs a ritual in the woods to murder her mother.

Pyewacket is a folk horror film that explores a family experiencing tragedy and a mother and daughter finding ways to cope and live with each other. While this movie covers the extreme ways of a young rebellious teenage girl copes with grief, the film does a good job of exploring grief and regret using folk horror as the genre. Many of the actions in the movie are quick, completely avoidable, and rash, but that's what makes it work as a coming-of-age movie. Watch the movie and catch our review.
