What makes a good radio broadcast? How can one stay relevant in such a competitive field? Host Catherine Grady is joined by Northwest Public Broadcasting’s On-Air host Natalie Newcomb to get lowdown of everything necessary to know for aspiring media figures. While Natalie rests her just-sprained ankle and Catherine curiously interviewed from her home studio, The senior at Washington State University majoring in communications who went viral for her World War II broadcast years prior joins us to share us insider knowledge on succeeding in one of the world’s most competitive industries.

Natalie Newcomb was a guest speaker for Catherine Grady's Radio Broadcasting course at Mercer Island High School a few weeks prior, and the host was immediately inspired at someone so close to her age already thriving in this dream career. Natalie Newcomb highlights simple tactics from noticing the little things in an interview to breaking comfort zones and sometimes as she says, “being“nosy”.

How have years of waking up at 5:00am and receiving a record of more than 100 tardies led Natalie to such a superior position before she’s even graduated? To utilize this rare and fortunate opportunity, and to hear her professional advice, stay tuned. 

On her "anything and everything" podcast, The Fireside Broadcast's host Catherine Grady features a special guest, California artist and illustrator Marly Beyer. Beyer's work ranges from detailed scientific illustration to personal explorations of secret corners and quiet, beautiful, playful, momentary, everlasting human connections. She is heavily influenced by years of restaurant work, myths, truths, weird dreams, old country songs, hotdogs, baseball, velvet, quantum physics, the fine art film, “Roadhouse”, etc.

Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders brings us the coming-of-age story of Ponyboy Curtis, a young man who finds himself caught in a social divide between the Greasers and the Socs. Through his family, fellow Greasers, and unexpected friendships, Pony courageously faces loss, life, death, and hope for the future.
