The FAU Football offseason has been dominated by how much Tom Herman & Co. brought in from the transfer portal, but what about what the Owls are returning from last year? Ken takes a look at what is coming back to contribute...and also gives a sense of how sparse it actually is. Also, just recently the NCAA presented new metrics that the Selection Committee will now have added for consideration when determining who gets into March Madness and how they'll be seeded. Since Ken LaVicka took over FAU play-by-play duties in 2009, FAU has played at 15 power conference venues. With EA Sports College Football '25 out, fans got into tense debates of EA's rankings of top homefield advantages around the sport. In the spirit of those debates, Ken decided to rank, in order, his top homefield advantages of every power conference opponent FAU Football has visited since '09. These include Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida, Kansas State, Auburn, Miami, Wisconsin, Alabama, Michigan State, Illinois & Georgia. They are also separated into tiers: "Just Happy To Be There", "Made You Feel Something" & "Electric".

With new, massive financial obligations coming to college athletics in the coming years, new AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti offered a solution to help the league weather the storm. His words, however, were misrepresented by a sports law journalist, leading to a firestorm of criticism from fans of conference schools, including a chorus of "Get us out of this league!" from the old guard fans of USF, Memphis, Tulane and East Carolina. Pernetti, however, not only had his words misconstrued, Ken also believes that what he proposed was extremely smart. He needs an apology. Also...Ken wants to reassure FAU fans that they can still say..."FAU".

Former FAU WR/TE John Mitchell began his journey to find love with "The Bachelorette" Season 21 star Jenn Tran and it went...fine! Ken watched all two hours of the season debut and tracked every John Mitchell appearance, every John Mitchell quote, broke down John Mitchell's outfit and just outright spent 120 minutes ogling John Mitchell...and making other observations of John's in-house competition. Last year was a disappointing one for FAU Football, but the preseason ESPN FPI paints a much better picture for Florida Atlantic fans. The predictive model, with a much easier schedule than 2023, gives FAU a very real chance of bowl eligibility...and maybe even more! Factor in FAU's FPI rank, the FPI rank of its opponents, a favorable non-conference AND league slate, not to mention a little luck that the Owls didn't have last year and an FAU bowl game is very much in the cards. Also, college football's best predictive formula in 2023 thinks that FAU will have Michigan State on Week 0 and Week 1's biggest upset alert. Finally, congrats to Michigan State on its...not to traditional national championships.

The world is mourning the passing of Willie Mays, one of the greatest (some would say THE greatest) baseball players of all-time. It turns out that FAU has a connection to the icon via a 70-year old scouting report housed just feet from FAU Stadium at the Avron B. Fogelman Museum. Mr. Fogelman answered questions about the scouting report, how it got to FAU and gave his memories of the baseball legend. Also, with sniping taking place between the FAU and USF football programs this week, we went back to discover why there's so much buzz surrounding USF and looked back at their 2023 season...which needs some serious context to tell the FULL, maybe not so spectacular, story of their 7-6 finish.

FAU head basketball coach John Jakus has a friendship with Celtics boss Joe Mazzulla that spans well beyond basketball. From, first, coaching him, to coaching with him, to standing up in his wedding to developing a connection that could be described as a "brotherhood", Jakus is extremely proud of his now NBA champion friend. Sitting down with Ken LaVicka, Jakus provides an insight into how Mazzulla was able to find success with the Celtics, how to the two met and then continued to cross paths, why significant, sometimes self-inflicted adversity that Mazzulla faced in college helped shape him and cement his bond with Jakus, and why he thinks Mazzulla has a lot more winning to come in Boston.
