  • TFPP 015: Self-knowledge- the foundation of sustainable Peak Performance

I have noticed a trend in our culture: We like to go for the sexy stuff first. Or what we view as the sexy stuff. We want instant results but we don’t want to put in the work to get it. When it comes to self-development and peak performance, many people are obsessed with “hacking”. Personally, I don’t really vibe with the term. I get the idea of short-cuts when it comes to shopping, or parking my car, or paying my credit card bill.
But hacking and short-cuts when it comes to self-development and peak performance is hugely counter-productive. Imagine a tree with no roots. The first gust of wind blows it down. Imagine learning surfing, and going straight to the north shore of Hawaii. You are going to suffer. A lot.

So what is this foundation of mastery? What are the roots of sustainable high performance?
Self-knowledge. As Aristotle said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”. He knew what was up. He knew about roots and self-awareness.
LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE if you want to build yourself from the bottom up. If you want to get started on building this solid foundation… Flowstate is launching a powerful program January 29th.
“The Flowstate Freeedom Formula”: This is designed to rapidly build solid roots of self-knowledge so you can go onto to mastery and peak performance. You can apply to join the program here with a 10 minute Flow-Finder strategy session.

“Men are supposed to look like He-Man and women are supposed to look like Barbie. A lot of us don’t look like He-Man or Barbie, so we are confused.”- Dane Tomas

Dane Thomas is the author of The Conscious Hustle  and creator of the Spiral Clearing Process.  He is working on some amazing projects aimed at freeing human beings from negative conditioning and exploring freedom in every sense.  In this 45 minute interview we cover free-style rapping, failing quickly, creating an entrepreneur mind-set around money and wealth, and Dane’s ongoing journey to explore sexuality and masculine identity.
We also mention some amazing resources for anyone who is looking to unleash themselves from limiting beliefs and self-doubt.
nb: there is some artful swearing in this episode, and free discussions of bodily parts and functions.

“Success, it’s the feeling that you’re moving towards something meaningful and fulfilling.”
“You’ll hear rappers talk about flow more than any other word. It’s sort of what the whole thing is about. ”

“The best guys have the highest speed of implementation.”
“You have to fail faster, you need to make more mistakes.”
“Just execute something, and then you can get feedback that you can build on.”
“Getting the interplay of masculine-feminine dynamics is, I think, a big thing that’s gonna come in in the world in the next sort of 5 to 10 years that we don’t, as a culture, understand very well. ”
“We’re so sexually repressed that we can’t handle all the parts of ourselves. Which is the cause of a lot of sexual dysfunction, a lot of abuse.
“Men are supposed to look like He-Man and women are supposed to look like Barbie. A lot of us don’t look like He-Man or Barbie, so we are confused.”

  • TFPP 013: What is flowstate and how can I experience more of it?
“Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” Lao Tsu
The flow state is beautifully simple, and it certainly does not need to be “hacked”. And it sure as hell is not just for extreme sports types.
In this Flow Nugget I offer various ways to look at flow, explain why it is so integral to realising our full potential, and how we can all experience more flow in our daily lives.
The flow state means many things to many people. Psychologists, neuroscientists, athletes, artists all have different ways of looking at flow.. and that is just in the western world. The east has its own ways of looking at flow. It is pretty fascinating to look how different regions of the world, and different ways of looking at personal experience is manifested into science, philosophy, rituals, practices, frameworks and technology.
The basic theme is that in the west, we are dominated by the scientific thought process, and flow is about “what can we add to our life to experience something new”. Whereas, generally speaking, in the eastern traditions, represented by the Vedic, Buddhist and Taoist traditions, flow/ non-doing/ harmony with nature, is all about removing whatever it is that blocks us from flowing.
This may be removal of attachment, removal of mental clutter, physical clutter etc.- the removal of barriers to what is always flowing, life-force, chi, prana.
This is all really fascinating stuff, but my view is that the most valuable thing we can do is to talk less and experience more. Learn about your own flow state. Listen in to find out a whole bunch of ways to do this.

What will you learn in this Flowstate Nugget?

    * The difference between Eastern and Western perceptions of flow- the scientific definitions versus the Daoist or Zen interpretations
    * How to recognise being in
    * flow: the sensations and feelings that I have
    * Why flow is so important-  how can experiencing more of it impact your life?
    * The 4 areas in our life we can refine or change, to experience more flow every day

  • TFPP 012: Derek Loudermilk- Self-reliance, evolution of our species and the Art of Adventure

Derek  Loudermilk is a microbiologist, a former pro cyclist, a world traveller, business coach,  photographer and host of the awesome podcast “The Art of Adventure”. He is also a buddy of mine and a truly interesting guy, who is living life differently. He currently abides in Bali, where he lives the life of a globally roaming, entrepreneur. When I think about Derek’s life, I just think: “This is a guy having fun, living life how it supposed to be lived.”
Just last week, Derek and a few buddies smashed a world record, by summiting Bali’s 3 major peaks/volcano’s in record time. In the show notes below I add a link to Derek’s youtube channel, so you can see what he said about that adventure.
Adventure doesn’t just always happen. Sometimes you have to make plans, visualise, make sh*t happen, overcome doubts, do the hard thing, say no to security, say yes to the unknown. But one thing is for sure, if you build your life around adventures… your life will not be bland.
I really enjoyed this podcast and it inspired me to follow through on my plans for adventure. So stay tuned…. HUGE adventures are in the pipeline!
Enjoy the show, and prepare to be inspired to plan your next big adventure.

    Flow Quotes

“I’ve always wanted to discover a new species.”
“People and social situations are fascinating.”
“Now, I’m definitely forcing myself to be uncomfortable multiple times a day.”
“There’s the element of self reliance and self discovery that you get from being out in a risky situation.”
“The more boring your life is, the less memories you have, the less full it feels.”
” You can inspire people with the stories you tell of how you made decisions in a tough situation. Or how you made it through something you didn’t think you were gonna make it through.”
“You can’t always be on an adventure. An adventure has to end at some point.”
“You can bond with people so much more quickly when you have these shared challenges, shared adversities. Because then you start to see vulnerability and you start to see who people really are. And it’s powerful.”
“I wanna make the distinction that an adventure doesn’t have to be jumping out of a plane.”
