In this episode, we primarily discuss kambo; a traditional Amazonian healing practice that involves the application of a secretion from the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) to small, superficial burns on the skin.

Indigenous tribes use kambo for cleansing the body, enhancing stamina, and warding off negative energies. In modern contexts, it is often sought for its potential to detoxify, boost immunity, and promote emotional healing.

It is important to note that this conversation was recorded in July of 2024 before the announcement from the FDA that they rejected the proposal from Lykos for MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy. Since that decision was made, a lot has changed in the world of psychedelic therapy but nonetheless, much of this conversation remains relevant now.

Dr. Devon Christie, a Clinical Instructor at UBC Department of Medicine, is a dedicated family doctor with a focus in chronic pain and mental health. In her clinical work at the Canadian Pain and Regenerative Institute and online psychotherapy practice in Vancouver, BC, she brings a holistic approach to her patients and clients. As a former clinical investigator and study therapist in MDMA-assisted therapy research for PTSD with MAPS, Devon is at the forefront of psychedelic therapy advancements.

Her extensive certifications in Functional Medicine, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Relational Somatic Therapy, Level 1 Internal Family Systems, MAPS MDMA-Assisted Therapy, and ketamine-assisted therapy underscore her commitment to comprehensive healing. Formerly the Numinus Senior Lead of Psychedelic Programs, Devon played a key role in developing and implementing psychedelic-assisted clinical and therapist training programs. Currently, she is proud to co-direct Embody Lab’s “Somatic Psychedelic Facilitation” certificate program with Atira Tan: together they provide a decolonizing approach to learning about and facilitating psychedelic healing.

Devon also teaches therapists in renowned training programs such as CIIS, IPI, ATMA, and VITAL, prioritizing ethical practice, mindfulness, and trauma-specific skills. Devon's passion lies in reshaping the healthcare paradigm by integrating trauma-informed, bio-psycho-social approaches. She envisions the careful introduction of psychedelic-assisted therapies as a transformative step towards a holistic healthcare model, echoing the principles traditional systems of healing have long embraced. In her recently self-published e-book “Integrative Somatic Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy”, she outlines important elements of this paradigm shift.

Ivan Rados is a leading non-dualistic spiritual teacher known for his profound awakening at 42, leading him to develop "The Middle Point" discipline. His teachings emphasize wholeness, health, and self-actualization, challenging traditional views on consciousness and being. Author of several bestsellers like "Health It’s all About Consciousness" and "The Art Of Meditation," Ivan has influenced countless other teachers and healers worldwide.

Dr. Devon is an MD and certified psychedelic therapist, working in chronic pain and mental health. In totday’s podcast episode, we invite you to meet Veronika - a strong and compassionate medicine woman who has dedicated herself to the art of healing. She is a graduate of the Phoenix Academy and Chiron Academy psychedelic and psychedelic integration training, and the School of Reverence psychedelic integration training programs.

Additionally, Veronika has training in Advanced Applied Kinesiology (bone and organ setting) and has completed many workshops in support of her work. Veronika's healing journey began after experiencing a long and challenging postpartum journey. She discovered how to address pain in the body, mind, and spirit and became curious about the causes of trauma. This curiosity led her to the path of medicine work, where she discovered her calling as a medicine woman with a deep capacity for holding space. She has a remarkable ability to enter into the subconscious mind and uncover hidden patterns that lead us into pain and turmoil.

In this episode, we discuss a variety of interesting topics. We talk about what applied kinesiology is and how it intersects wit psychedelics. We also discuss how different medicines can be stacked together, how psychedelic experiences differ for men and women, the importance of community and support as well as the role of motherhood in psychedelics.
