What are you actually afraid of when you think about Food Noise coming back?
For some people, the answer is simple. The thoughts and feelings around food have finally gotten quieter, and they do not want to experience them again. But I think there can be another fear underneath that one. If the Food Noise comes back, does the weight come back too? Do old eating patterns return? Do you lose control? Does everything you accomplished start disappearing?
In this episode, I explore why the return of Food Noise does not automatically mean the return of your past.
This is especially relevant for people who are taking or have taken GLP-1 medications. If medication gave you relief from thoughts and feelings around food that you experienced for years or decades, I do not think you have to immediately turn that relief into another project. You are allowed to enjoy the quiet.
You also do not have to spend every day preparing for the possibility that the noise might return.
Because there is another risk there.
Fear of Food Noise can become its own kind of noise.
You can start monitoring every craving, appetite change, medication effect, meal, or number on the scale, wondering whether it means something is going wrong.
That is where I think the bigger conversation becomes less about whether thoughts around food exist and more about how you respond to them.
If Food Noise does return, you may actually have an opportunity to understand it more clearly than you ever have before.
What exactly are you experiencing?
What does the noise sound like?
What does it mean to you?
How does it make you feel?
And where do you want to go from there?
I also get into the belief that some people using weight loss medication may quietly carry, even if they would never say it publicly.
Did I take the easy way out?
I do not believe using a tool that helps you means you took the easy way out. But if some part of you believes that, I think it is worth knowing. That belief could influence the fear you experience around stopping medication, maintaining weight loss, or trusting yourself around food.
Throughout the episode, I come back to something simple.
Your past does not have to predict your future.
You can change your thoughts.
You can change your actions.
You can build eating and activity around your preferences.
You can take a break before deciding what comes next.
And when you are ready, you can choose a completely different direction from the one you followed before.
