Coming to you from Foster St. in the center of a small closet welcome back to the foster takeover. I’m Keith and this is my thoughts and perspective on anything. This episode I talk about the MBTA here in Massachusetts. The fine Transportation system of Boston, MA. The first Subway system in America. When it began in the 1890s it had two stations right in the heart of Boston which I’m curious is to how they could have a system with two stations. They obviously expanded but I go off sometimes I wonder those little things.
Again it’s a fine subway system but it has it’s issues. Signal problems, slow trains, old trains, delays, traffic, disabled trains, construction, shuttle services, you name it. You also can’t hear any announcement heard on the PA systems on the train because either the volume is down or it’s the original PA that came with the train. My political question to the local government is where is the money to fix the issues and why does it take so long?
There are four color coated subway lines i’ll talk about individually, how about from best to worst. The best is the blue line. I’ve lived here since I was 16 and I can’t remember a delay or a breakdown on the blue line. The line looked like it was from the 1960s all of it including the trains. Through the years they did a beautiful job renovating the whole line including getting new trains. The trains on the blue line now are from 2007. There’s only one station that needs to be worked on.
Next line is the Green Line. The busiest line in the system and the biggest. This is the line that connects all if not most of Boston which I think is why it’s most popular with an extension to Somerville Massachusetts by the 2020s. New Trains are due to start coming in Spring. Line can be too busy at times with delays and traffic. Why can’t they use every single train in the fleet? I see sometimes trains lying around in train yards. Use all the trains please.
Orange line is next. Line can look more modern like the blue line. Line has also had it’s issues with smoke on the trains and a couple fires. It got so bad that people had to break the windows to get off the train I remember it was horrible. Trains are very old the current fleet is from 1980 and they were never refurbished. New trains are due to start rolling out at the end of this year.
Finally yes… The Red line and my MA audience might agree. Signal problems, Delays, traffic, construction, shuttles, disabled trains my goodness. The oldest trains right now in the whole system. I have been on trains twice stuck for at least 30 minutes. Some trains are almost 50 years old. The newer ones are from the 90s. The older ones? Unacceptable. You never know when the trains will die for good. New trains finally are due the end of next year. This line is the worst because it was the most affected in the winter of 2015 that had the most snowfall in Boston History. Train tracks froze and were covered constantly with snow. Me and most of the city complained to no end saying what is going on. Employees were probably home keeping warm while all of us were late to work and had to wait constantly in the freezing cold in knee deep snow.
All we need and ask is for better work on the system and improvement. Where does our money or fares go? They need to go to improve the system. The dates I gave for the new trains, it’s the latest guesses, they always change when trains come. There was a time I read that we’d have new orange line trains in 2015. All types of people are on the trains too. Drug addicts, Drunks, Homeless, People that want to start fights, People that drink on the trains too which that needs to stop.
