In which a young girl named Dorothy, with her kitten Eureka, arrives at a remote and rather somber station after a very delayed train journey disrupted by tremors of the earth, soon joined by a cheerful boy named Zeb who takes her towards a nearby ranch in a rather peculiar and somewhat dilapidated buggy. As the ground continues to quake dangerously beneath them, their tranquil ride turns suddenly perilous when the earth splits open, swallowing them and their horse into an ominous and uncertain descent.

In which Dorothy, Zeb, and Jim the horse descend gently through a rainbow-lit chasm into a wondrous city of glass buildings and coloured suns, where animals speak and people move about with an absence of familiar expressions. They are soon confronted by a dignified man who accuses them of causing a recent calamity, and leads them with the silent glass-dwellers to a grand palace where their fate awaits.

In which Dorothy gladly accepts Ozma's invitation to return to the enchanting Land of Oz, journeying across the desert on a magic carpet accompanied by faithful friends and new acquaintances. Upon their arrival, they are greeted with joyous celebrations in the Emerald City, where Ozma honours her loyal companions and appoints the humble private Omby Amby to a high office amidst a splendid feast.

In which the company joyfully returns to the pleasant land of Ev, reuniting with the Tin Woodman in a most unexpected manner and receiving a warm welcome from the grateful people. The Queen proudly establishes her son as the future King, and a festive air of celebration and gratitude pervades the splendid palace.

In which Dorothy discovers a magical picture in Ozma's castle that reveals scenes from faraway places, including her Kansas home and her uncle in Australia, prompting her desire to reunite with him. With the counsel of Glinda and the help of Ozma, Dorothy wisely entrusts the magic belt to the princess before bidding farewell to her Oz friends and preparing to return to her uncle’s side.
