  • Freedom Fighters Podcast, Episode 3: Rhythm in Our Words | Learning from Langston Hughes

In Episode 3 of the Freedom Fighters Podcast, Benjamin, Ruby, and Joshua step into the rhythm, creativity, and powerful words of the Harlem Renaissance as they learn about poet Langston Hughes.

Benjamin discovers that poetry can make more sense when he hears its rhythm and sound. Ruby organizes the group’s ideas through pictures, messages, and connections. Joshua notices patterns in the poetry and helps the team understand how jazz and blues influenced the way Langston Hughes used language.

Along the way, the Freedom Fighters discover something important: people do not have to learn, think, or communicate in exactly the same way to contribute something valuable.

Benjamin has dyslexia. Ruby experiences learning challenges. Joshua is autistic. Their differences are not erased in this episode. Instead, the friends recognize how their individual ways of thinking help them notice different parts of the same lesson.

With humor, friendship, kid-friendly conversation, and a little “aura farming,” the group connects history to something students can understand today: your voice matters, and the way your mind works can help you bring something special to the world.

Perfect for students in grades 4–8, families, teachers, classrooms, and young history lovers.

    Episode takeaway:
Different minds notice different things. When we listen to one another, those differences can become powerful strengths.
