  • Rob and Cynthia Griffing: Denver Broncos, AFCWA, and Nail Guns

#016. Rob attended Elysian Fields HS in east Texas and played football, baseball, tennis, and ran track.  He is ambidextrous, which made him a very dangerous baseball player. He was given the opportunity to play both baseball and football at Taft Junior College where he was a part of the 1982 football National Championship team.  He transferred to Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO and played baseball and football where he was a 2 time runner up in the National Championship game.  From there he signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos and the NY Football Giants until a weight room injury sidelined him.  After the NFL, he served as a graduate assistant at UNLV until the head coach got fired and at that point, he made  the decision to come back to Texas to coach Texas High  School football.

Cynthia is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Kincaid HS, and the President of the American Football Coaches Wives Association. She and Rob had some fun in their careers as they served at two different high schools...and actually played each other. Who won? You will have to listen to find out the overall record in the family.

For more information on the AFCA and the AFCWA, click on the links below:

Rob is starting his 29th year in coaching HS football. Here is his journey:

1992-1994 Spring Hill HS, Longview, TX

    1994-1997 Duncanville HS, Duncanville, TX

    1997-200 Carroll HS, Southlake, TX

    2000-2002 Corsicana HS, Corsicana, TX

2016-2018 Cinco Ranch  HS, Katy, TX

    2018-2020 Taylor  HS,  Katy,  TX

He has coached some great athletes that have gone on to doing big-time things in college and the NFL. But they both resound that it all comes down to RELATIONSHIPS with the boys they have had the honor to coach and mentor. Enjoy!

  • Donnie and Lisa Martin: Coordinating Life with the Consummate Coaching Couple with (Part 2)

#014. This is part two of a two part series with Donnie and Lisa Martin. She is a working mom of two, and he is one of the best Defensive Coordinators in the CIF-Southern Section. In this episode, we hear from Lisa on how she uplifts and supports her husband while at the same time handles all her other responsibilities with work and raising her two children.

Donnie and Lisa share their greatest memories with their athletes off the football field. They like to bring their boys over to the house and feed them. Well, sometimes when high school football players get together off the field, some crazy things can happen, especially when there is a trampoline or a bounce house involved.

Also, hear from Lisa how she handles Donnie in the highs and lows of coaching, and they even dip into Donnie's playing days. Remember, they met at Azusa Pacific University while Donnie was playing college ball, and onto the semi-pro stage. So, what happens when Donnie goes to show Lisa a specific defensive lineman technique he was working on? Let's just say, they are still married!

Donnie tells us about his mentors coming into coaching and some of his closest colleagues in the profession and what he has learned from each of them. And how do you coach up your 2nd and 3rd team guys? What does it take to keep those athletes who don't play a lot, but bust their tails everyday in practice?

    Enjoy.

  • Donnie and Lisa Martin: Coordinating Life with the Consummate Coaching Couple with (Part 1)

#013. In this first episode of a two-part series, Donnie and Lisa Martin embody servanthood in the coaching profession. They have been a part of many teams, and everywhere they have been, they have left a legacy of love trailing behind them as they have touched the lives of hundreds of athletes over the last 20+ years.

They have coached and fed their fair share of athletes who have gone on to great careers at the next levels, but to this day, Donnie maintains that his best year of coaching was when he was a part of a team that went 0-10...how can he say that? What does that even mean? Find out his secret in this episode.

Donnie is also a Pastor at Fresh Anointing New Life Ministries in Rancho Cucamonga.

They also discuss the important role that social media can play in football and in life. And give them a follow on the following platforms:
